I thought i was doing well with macros and keyclone but some of the stuff i have been reading here has made my brain swell. Ive seen action bars that say f9 and the other f functions all these new macros that allow each char to target without having to target my main to target his target and still dont understand it. So this makes me feel more noobage then ever i guess thats why i am here for a little help getting this setup correctly cause i wanna be able to pvp when i get higher in lvls and i thought the /target 'main' /cast [target=targettarget] spell was good. Now reading all this i see castsequences and modifiers and i feel lost trying to figure it out if someone could help me maybe in game as well as here would be awesome i am on server eonar alliance name is totemwhome im on most of the time. If im not just let me know a time on this site where you might be able to help me out. Im not computer illeterate to say but just need some help like everyone else here thanks.

since you mentioned [target=targettarget] let me describe that's going on.

You use this on all your slaves. this assumes that your slaves are targeting your main. if your slave is targeting your main, then thats all your slaves will see. your main. it will not change targets unless your spell requires it. keep your slaves targeting your main character always.

[target=targettarget] basically tells your slaves to cast a spell on your target's (main) target. if your main is targetting a mob, then your slaves will attach whatever your main is targeting.

since you can really only target from one screen, using this method to do battle is a lot simpler. you cannot target the same thing from each slave independently unless the conditions are right. and usually, the conditions are never right (all slaves are in targeting range of the mob; only one mob). so use your main account to target, and have everyone target what your main is targeting. thats basically how this works.

OK this is what happens with my f8-f12 buttons the macros are set as this when i hit them and swaps screens and is
/focus "new targets name"
/follow focus
/assist focus

That is the macro when they change. Then the macro for the spells are
/cast [target=focus target] lightning bolt

To me there seems like there should be more to it then just one line because when i switch screens the new main wants to target the old main who more then likely is a dead target and does not want to do anything but sit there but I'm going to try some more to resolve this problem and with help it might get done faster but i will see. And on the leaderless setup i have tried to understand it but i must still have my brain in the stone age lol.

you really don't need an /assist focus. Assist is basically if you don't have a focus.


Assist would be something like this for every spell
/assist [main]
/cast [spell]

Focus would be something like this
/focus [main] (just have to do once, usually when everyone is in group]

other macro will just need
/cast [target=focustarget] [spell]

Good thing about using assist is that you still have your focus to use. This is good for sheeping (or soon hex), you make the mob that you want to sheep the focus and have you macro (/cast [target=focus] sheep). This way you don't have to have your main click on the guy to sheep him or what not. You can continue to cast spells on your mains target and when sheep break all you have to do is click the button and re-sheep without switching.

Bad about assist. Unlike focus where you only set it once you have to have it in all your macros. So focus is only 1 line of code and assist is 2 lines of code.


Right now i am using focus, but i have to think about how to best use my hex when it comes.

Well i guess after a good nights sleep i got them all to work now when they switch over my macros say
/follow main
/follow focus
/assist focus

it does that on every one now so when i change i hit it once to follow twice to assist new main. though as long as im on my main they auto target what hes target so whew

and the other lone is /cast [target=focustarget] spell

It all works now gonan do more tweaking when i get home from work tonight

you might want to add a /clearfocus also, so everyone will clear their focus before picking up a new one.

ok so i typed my macro in wrong lol its
/focus main
/follow focus
/assist focus

but i decided when i get home from work imma change that just to
/focus main
/assist focus

Considering imma do a follow macor on my = button then on my right action bar hitting ctrl shift 5 will make them either mount if non combat or ghost wolf in combat what you guys think
and the clear focus you were talking about shoud i put that after /assist focus so that if i hit that button again it clears it all or does it really not matter. Well ill be back on later yey for work interrupting progress grrr.

A common macro I use is:

/cast [target=focustarget,exists,nomod] spell
/cast [target=focustarget,exists,mod:shift] different spell

this gives me two spells for the cost of one UI button. I used to use bartender and addons like that but I've finally given up on constantly updating and configuring them, now I just use the default action bars and I have no problems...ever

and when I set my focus, I have found

/target main
/focus
/cleartarget

to work more reliably than /focus main

Since I've switched from hardware to software, I use keyclone's method of setting the focus at the same time I switch screens. The only complex macro I have is for follow. I use the the focusless, macroless method for follow. I have found it also more reliable than /follow focus.

Another thing to look out for is to make sure keybindings across all characters are exactly the same and use 'do no pass" feature of keyclone.
