Default please update this site

I have spent the last couple of days reading dozens of threads here, reading as many guides as i could find, followed some links to admins blogs and how to guides, read the wikipedia(thats how i found this site), gone off site to do research about add-ons, plug-ins and shareware programs and after spending some time here I have come to this conclusion.

Almost everything you would want to know about multi-boxing is somewhere on this site. The problem is finding it quickly. I'm sure for people that have been doing this for awhile have most of what they need to successfully multibox. But as a newbie the amount of information that is dumped into the limited number of catagories is overwelming. e.g. in this section there is 115 pages of posts. I spent 4 hours today and only got into the low 20's. when i finally found what i was looking for it was originally posted dec 07' and only located it because someone linked the orginal post.

So for the Admin, I think you started something here that has grown past your initial goals. 3000+ members is not a small information site, but the information is getting lost in the layout. which I can imagine is leading to increased frustration in answering the same questions over and over and over again. the search capabilities of this site is not very good because the way people post their threads. e.g. some people use: mac, macpro, mac pro, apple, macintosh, mac book pro. even if they use the would mac the search might not find that post in a thread.

Again I think this site is great, but needs improvement. e.g. I'm a mac user but trying to find information on using a mac to multibox is difficult. there are not many of us mac users( now about 5% of the computer market), mac posts are few and far between, it would be nice to give us our own catagory. maybe a section for 1 computer users and another for 5 computer users. each class could have its own section also.

just some thoughts from someone new here. love the site.

Very good point, I started multiboxing a while back now but in the beginning it was a nightmare to find what i needed, took hours of post searching but in the end i got there. i recommend a site revamp to make things a bit more search friendly.

expecting Ellay to do it all is a bit much.

of course, you all could offer to help and maybe Ellay could divide up the tasks appropriately

It's an uphill struggle. The forum is a haven for information, but forums -- in general -- lack categorization.

We do have a wiki which is growing slowly but surely, and we are attempting to move particularly valuable threads/guides to the wiki as quickly as possible (keeping in mind that most of us have somewhat hectic lifestyles and, while we love helping people out, don't always have hours upon hours to search for these things either). I think the best way to help minimize the problem is to contribute to the solution -- as a newbie, you have common questions and if/when you find answers, just take a few moments to jot it down in a wiki page. Even if the formatting isn't pretty -- someone can come in behind you and clean up the display of the page.

Even just taking a few moments to make sure your post is in the correct subforum is a step up to help information be more noticable. However, you'll realize the conundrum of creating a "mac" forum when your post about mac software fits under both the "software" forum (for software multiboxing programs on macs), mac forum (for your OS), and macro forum at the same time. We actually tried to use additional subcategories to seperate various forums and that was met with conflicting reviews -- most people just refused to use the categorization at all and everything ended up in the general forums and newbie forums regardless of content.

I also have a "guide to guides" which is essentially a crosslinking page. It provides LINKS to various valuable pages, wikis, and resources. If you haven't already seen it, it may help.

Last, but not least, there is a Mac section on the wiki but it is terribly lacking. I don't know how many mac boxers are around but I'd love to have your input on that page -- I have NO experience with macs. The software page in the wiki has a chart at the bottom that I've tried my best to update -- it has a column to specify mac/windows programs.

Web hosting -- particularly when you've had to upgrade to a fully dedicated server thanks to the slashdot effect, is not cheap.

If you don't like the ads, you're welcome to donate to offset the costs of hosting. I think until donations can cover the cost of hosting entirely, Ellay is likely to leave the ads up.

I think alot of people are looking to have their hand held. Taking some time and planning out everything that you want to do before you do it can actually save you alot of head ache. When I first found this site I spent close to 2 months and read almost every thread at that point before I started.

How to fix the "problem" you've identified (or at least improve the situation):

    1) Volunteer to reorganize some of the things you're having trouble finding yourself on the wiki,

    or

    2) Go to google and, in the search box, use the following syntax: site:dual-boxing.com <search terms>

I personally use 2 above. It wurks guud. :P And I've also (per option 1) availed myself of the wiki editing abilities to clean up a few articles and even add a tutorial for the software package I use.
