Default Thaughts on components for builds.

I am going to go with a quadcore, 8gig ram, vista 64, and 7200 rpm hdd's (2). (This will be my first build ever so with that been trying to research everything but would like some advice)

First off what are the thaughts between amd and intell (other then cost) I have heared in the past that amd runs cooler then intell cpus. I am not looking to liquid cool (beings this is my first ever build). So that I am looking at (will be going with an antec 900 case, have had allot of people recomend that case due to being easy to work with and a fair ammount of air flow potential). But yet when I do start understanding more, I will eventully look into ocing the syestem and have read some stuff that amd doesnt oc as much as intel does. (I am looking at 2.5 or 2.6 ghz) Some thaughts ?

As for video cards, I am not sure what to do with this. In the end I would like to run 4 moniters, 1 for the main 2 for slaves and 1 for internet and such thing (I tend to watch allot of movies when I am grinding and farming for mount money and other exspencies in the game) I prefer nivida. But as to models I am not yet ready to go with a gtx 260 and was looking more along the lines of 9800, 9600, and the 8800. Sugjestions on this ?

In all I am going for the build to be able to 5box and will be buying the components for the build around the 10th of nov when I am done working on the contract I am currently on and have the time to enjoy building it, and the time to enjoy the rig in itself aswell as to have the time to start going into multiboxing aswell as the xpac.

for cpu, i'd go with intel, simply because they're on top right now. less power consumption (less heat), better performance... i would recommend a Q9550-- 2.8 ghz stock and a good price for the performance. uses 45nm manufacturing tech. Q6600 (2.4 ghz stock, 65 nm man. tech.) is still a good processor, for $100+ cheaper
both the q9550 and the q6600 have a ton of overclocking potential

video cards.... i would recommend a gtx 260 (you can get great deals with mail-in rebates right now) but a 9800 gt(x) is still a good card for about $100-150 less. i wouldn't recommend cards earlier than that, 8800's run too hot for my taste.

I'd stick with Intel. quad 2.4 for $179 is crazy good. I just put a GTX 260 in, and it's awesome. I had an 8800GTS G92 in there before, and te 260 blows it away. Having more available memory on the video card is the main reason I went that way over say a 9800GX2, or a 9800GT. I might even use the EVGA 'step up' program and get a gtx 280 in a few months. Either that, or ill go SLI whenever they release the drivers that allow multiple monitors under SLI. Maybe that will solve the issue of extreme FPS drop when a wow window is put onto the monitor attached to the secondary video card.

I have the same case you are looking at. It's a nice case. It does tend to draw in dust, I constantly wipe down the front for dust, as its constantly covered. It does keep my case very cool. My motherboard temperature is always just a few degrees above room temperature, and my CPU is at a constant 52 degrees C at full tilt, and it's OC'd to 3.3ghz.

I used to be a BIG AMD supporter--but I switched to Intel when I did my Dual Core box that I'm currently running on (until tomorrow!). I'm really liking the Intel performance at this point in time, and they are continuously recommended to me over AMD.

My new build is using the Q9550 CPU, along with 8 gigs of RAM and Dual Radeon 4750s. IMO, I would go for the Intel. If you are concerned about cooling, you won't have ANY issues with the Antec 900 case. That is my current case and it flat stays cool. My husband switched to a 900 case as well in his most recent build (we were having lots of issues with his PC overheating), and we've had no issues since that replacement.
