Pros for Demo:
Easier instance runs with better tanking pets
Slightly better direct damage

Cons for Demo:
Much worse dot damage
no instant aoe fears
no siphon life
no unstable affliction
no haunt
no corruption crit (!!! BIG ONE)
Additional pros for Demo:
  • Felguards chew faces off.
  • Felguards continue to chew rogue faces off even with Cloak of Skill up.
  • Felguards continue to chew warlock faces off even when they proc the shadow/fire resist talent.
  • Felguards continue to chew mage faces off even when that mage blinks out of range of you.
  • Felguards continue to chew faces off even when you're silenced or OOM.
  • Felguards continue to chew faces off even when they're LOS'ing you.
  • Felguards continue to chew faces off while you're DoTting up other people
  • Felguard charge stun = no running away from me on mounts.
  • Soul link = 15% damage mitigation = huge benefit against high-DPS rogues or other burst classes.
  • Quick and cheap pet recovery (instant every 15 minutes)
  • Lifetap gives mana to the pets as well.
Realistically, it's a fair amount of eggs in one basket but when properly employed it does give you a roaming semi-intelligent DoT in addition to the rest of your DoTs. I've never had enough +spell damage to make it seem like affliction was worthwhile to me but I've not kept the spec for very long, either.
