I see it no different to driving a car - you don't necessarily need to know what's going on under the hood to enjoy driving. You just won't know how to fix it if it gets broken (You just have to pay someone else to fix it).
This depends entirely on who deploys it. I've done thousands of IT deployments that include basic training and maintenance instructions. An experienced individual could easily setup a multiboxing rig for someone and give them the basics for what it takes to maintain it. The only real issues I can see would be major changes in the setup such as BT3 being unsupported when BT4 came out.
