    Default /targetrandom

Hmm, saw someone mention the command /targetrandom, and I'm wondering a few things.

On a heroic instance with my five-pack, the hunter does about 35% of the overall damage, the arcane mage about 26%, and the elemental shaman 23%. Prior to the patch the hunter was about 3% lower, and the others up a little higher. (The shaman used to be above the mage.)

I'm thinking my team might be burning down mobs too fast, and thus wasting up to 2 seconds cast time just before the mob dies.

I'm assuming /castrandom is at least smart enough to target something in the current group you are fighting now (no random shots lobbed off at a second group). So do you guys think it'd be more worthwhile to have the shaman, if not the shaman and the mage, use /castrandom to maximize the damage done? Granted, fights might be more dangerous at the beginning as you are letting more mobs live longer. However, overall more chain lightnings would go off, and thus more damage overall...

(The shaman uses /castsequence [target=focustarget, harm] Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Chain Lightning and has a cast time of 1.74 seconds on the LBs...)

No such thing as /targetrandom, and you seem to be mixing up that and /castrandom.

It appears you are mixing two ideas, /targetrandom and /castrandom. As to /targetrandom, I don't know if this even exist but if it did it would be a really bad idea. /castrandom on the other hand can be very handy particularly to use trinkets and/or spells with longer cooldowns like Elemental Mastery. Some people will disagree with using it for things like EM because it is not at your disposal when you need it, however, I use it way more this way than I would if I had to think about it all the time. But I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for something with a short cooldown such as Chain Lightning especially when there are multiple mobs and/or adds where a CL could rip aggro before your tank has a chance to gain it.

    Looking at www.wowwiki.com on macros:

    /targetenemy, /targetfriend
These commands cycle through the specified type of unit. /targetenemy is like pressing TAB, and /targetfriend is like pressing CTRL-TAB. You can also add a parameter of 1 which reverses the direction of the cycle (/targetenemy 1 is like pressing SHIFT-TAB).
Note: You can only use these commands once per macro.
I agree about the aggro party. Would almost be best to have a button to attack the focus' target on the first shot, then after that the tankadin should have plenty of aggro to do /targetenemy and blast on a different mob. The dangers of switching to a mob not even in combat concerns me a little though, or if you hit an unlucky mob in a four-pack where the paladin's shield and hammer both only hit three of the mobs, and the fourth only has a tick or two of consecration on it. That'd be bad.

If I want to hit multiple targets, I just use the delay in target switching to my advantage. I switch targets quickly, and I tend to get the damage spread across those enemies. That was my solution to spreading damage.
