$4000 for each six core CPU... 24 cores, throw 2gb ram sticks in all 24 slots and a 16x PCI-Express video card (only 8 lanes available, teh suk) and you have a machine that can easily run all the copies of WoW at once...

I don't even want to imagine the overall cost of the thing, but it would be interesting to see none the less. I figured since Sam's got more dollars than sense he may be interested in it .

Seriously, this would be a great technical feat if someone were to buy that machine, max it out and put lets say 20-30 WoWs on it.

I'd be happy to volunteer to set up the software and multi-box increasing amounts of trial accounts until it broke.

Cost wise it's not really that far out, only need about a gig of RAM per instance.
But with only 1 PCI-Ex16 slot you'd only be able to get 2 monitors on it.
Really it screams VIRTUAL SERVER!!!

And like someone else mentioned, you've GOT to hit bus saturation with that at somepoint, and many more issues I'm sure.

I think you should be fine with 500 MB per WoW instance. An uber graphics card should be able to handle all the instances.

Your big problem is drive thrashing if you're using regular hard drives. Of course, an SSD would solve that problem.

I can get 32G system with duel optrons for like $1500 (not the fastest optrons though, the slowest ones). Like was said that should do 30 wow's easy. 32 G ram is not costly now days at $12.50 a G ...

I don't think you have to worry about disk thrashing cause you dont need a page file with 32G ram, and you can load the entire wow folder into system ram with 20G left over ...

The question is: how do you control 30 wows with one monitor and one keyboard? Ya Keyclone will let you fire all at the same time but if you have to control just one? Also won't wow drop you thinking its a denial of service attack from one IP?

You run all your machines from 1 IP as far as blizzard see's, unless you have all your machines on a public IP... it's called Network Address Translation... just about every college does it as well... so no, they won't think it's a DOS attack.

I could run 6x5 clients (30) on a single 22" screen with PIP swapping the focused client to a full 22" screen (1680x1050) and it would look/work fine.
