Default Keyclone and Interbox with two CPUs better than one single CPU?

    Hello everyone.
I have searched the wiki and the forums for a better understanding on this subject, but I’m looking for some feedback from anyone that is running the setup or just knowledge in general. I hope I am not reposting anything.

I have been 4 boxing on my single computer and it works great for leveling and 5 man dungeons; but slows down while in busy cities (still manageable though). The bane of my set up though is AV, just too much going on when I’m in the thick of it. So, I was thinking of switching my set up to have 2 Computers with Keyclone as my emulator and Synergy for my Mouse broadcasting.

Question: I understand from the wiki that there will be less performance with this set up; but how much? Should it be better than my single CPU at the moment and just not better than a complete hardware setup? Or, will having to rely on networking to transmit keys and mouse functions create more lag than the single box?
Note: I have no problems on either CPU multi-boxing, so running two accounts per should run great.

Thanks again for everyone’s help and feedback!

<edit to reflect that I used Interbox instead>

I don't think you are going to run into any problems taking some of the workload off of one pc.
Removing 1 or 2 WoW's from a PC and replacing it with Keyclone + KVM software you should still see an improvement in performance.

Your computers can't possibly be worse than mine. :P

I'm using Keyclone on 3 computers all networked and using Skarlot's new software for mouse/keyboard.

I have some pretty cheap network hardware here.. and i did a test to see how fastmy wired network was and it was something like 0.7 ms return, so you compare 0.35 ms to say 8ms for an LCD and it's negligible. mice/keyboard/screens are more likely to add latency than networking, eg the difference between my wireless [edit: MX Revolution not G7] and my razer deathadder, and the difference between a Dell 24" (16ms) and my other 17" screens (8ms i think) is more noticable than any network latency here, on either of my KM's. Actually I think my new one can still be tweaked a little more. Not all KM's are equal in latency, and I can't comment on Synergy, but tight network code should be very quick.

Thank you for the feedback so far. This looks like it may be my after work project for the night. I’m looking into using Interbox instead of Synergy and I need to keep my leaderless/focusless setup running.

Hmmm… Do I just copy all the keymaps over from my main Computer or will I have to totally reconfigure everything when I set up a linked Keyclone on another Computer?

I just copied mine over and it worked like a charm.

Thanks again. I look forward to less lag in AV.

OK, so I did the Interbox and Keyclone set up last night and my FPS was great. The only problem that I could see was that with the leaderless/focusless setup, I have to give just a little more time for my target to change over all clients, or I’ll dps/heal an old target. So, all in all, I think I will stick with this setup because it reduces my lag while in the thick of it.

I think this is do to a general increase in lag server wide right now. I'm seeing a lot of decreased performance/lag that wasn't there before.
Even if you don't use the FTL setup, it will still take time for target/assist to trickle over to your slaves.
