Patch 3.0 killed my multiboxing

So I sat down in front of the computer today to check out the changes in the new patch. I have run a group of a paladin tank, a fury warrior, a fire mage, an elemental shaman and a holy paladin. I respeced the holy paladin to retribution, the elemental shaman to restoration and the fury warrior to arms.

Then it was time to test how this new constellation performed in an instance, so I launched the WoW client windows one by one as I always have done. When I tried to launch the fourth window I realized that I have played my last WoW multiboxing day.

I have always run all five WoW clients on the same PC, and have had one window maximized and the others minimized. Prior to the patch the burden on the CPU decreased a lot by minimizing a WoW client window; it only chew a couple of per cents CPU. (It is still possible to send keystrokes to minimized windows (but mouse clicks don't work) and according to the GM i chatted with on my server this is fully legal.)

Now, after the patch, a minimized WoW window eats 30 % of my poor CPU, almost as much as an active window. I need a new motherboard or a new computer, and since I'm not willing to invest in more hardware just to play a silly computer game I will quit WoW now.

Yep. I don't think the graphics settings have anything to do with how much CPU the game eats when it is minimized. Changing the resolution and other video settings have no effect.

maybe your /set maxfpsbk got reset?

Worked for me as well, got the info on the wow forums from a mod. My fps just running 2 was around 10-15, before patch it was 50-60, so I did the reset and all is well again

This /set maxfpsbk 0 command interest me whats it all about?

maxfpsbk stands for "maximum frames per second in the background" which is the FPS cap the game sets up while its in a background state (minimized). If its set to 0, it probably turns the rendering off altogether so the most it's probably doing is processing network updates.

So if you set maxfpsbk 0 and you have 5 tiled screens on one computer what exctly happens in the 4 windows that are not updated? The characters move but the background never changes? Or are they all considered forground if they are titled, and only background when you run full screen, like I do?

I dont think maxfpsbk at 0 does anything.. I usually run my displayed background windows at 10.. setting it /console maxfpsbk 0 doesn't change the fps. If you want to save up on cpu usage setting it at 1 should do it.
