Thread: 5 boomkin?

  1. #1

    Default 5 boomkin?

i'm pretty new to multi-boxing, just started last week actually, but i have a pretty grasp on it i think. i have a focus system set up that allows me to change mains easily, and some pretty good macros imo...

i have 5 boomkin right now, they're level 20-21 atm.. I've been having a blast with them! just wondering how everyone thinks these will do in 3.0 and especially when wotlk hits. i don't need to hear "lol u shulda dun shams," i get that enough when i login.
i'd just like to hear some opinions on pros and cons of 5 boomkin, these few come to mind for me:

    pros:
    -5x moonfire spam
    -5x wrath spam
-new 51-pt AOE dot talent, talented to have a chance to stun
    -ability to stealth
    -tons of HoTs
-5x cyclone (this could be considered a con as well, as there isn't really an easy way to use several at once)
    -boomkin dance

    cons:
    -no real interrupt ability
    -no tremor totem
    -no grounding totem

i would like to hear any suggestions you may have-- spec, playstyle, pvp, etc.
also, is there any way to have treants spawn AT YOUR LOCATION without clicking? like some kind of a self-target cast... i was considering speccing them to get treants if there is a way to do this, as the mass chaos caused by 15 trees would be awesome. but if the only way to summon them is by actually clicking on the screen, it seems like it would be too much of a hassle.

thanks for any ideas, suggestions, etc :]

I am loving my druids as i level them up. Moonfire and insectswarm dots seem awesome and the stealth debuff FF is nice. Wrath spam is cool and in pvp its burst is pretty nice, but the mana drain is intense. Stealth is very nice and can allow for the starfire opener. I am looking into a sequenced pounce and then starfire on each druid. Long stun while getting hit with big boom.

Some of the problems i see are that the shaman have a nice semi-aoe CL that is on a CD but a really fast cast time. LaB will also be on a fast cast time. Starfire is on an agonizingly slow cast time in pvp. The shaman also have the nice magma totem aoe for pesky melee. Shaman also have an aoe heal of sorts. Druid can have an aoe heal but only if one of them is spec into resto... can't be balance and have it. A downside to druid healing over shaman healing as i have played it is that the shaman have an easier time healing burst with more mana efficiency. At level 80 druids will get nourish and then they will have a fast cast direct heal like shaman LHW. Barkskin and naturesgrasp for the druid are nice and with shift snare removal maybe that can get you some distance in bgs.

No tremor and no grounding totem really hurt. Mana and healing stacking are really sweet. Also in pvp thuderstorm and grounding totems will be really nice and druids lack that kind of mojo. Also ele pvp shaman should have that reduced damage when feared/stunned thing.

All in all druids will be totally awesome for pve as i see it, but for pvp they will not have as good of an ability to deal the needed damage in the required (short) period of time.

I think druids will still be workable but not as nice in pvp as shaman. I would love to be wrong.

Just keep a pvp trinket handy, the heavy balance druid 5 box is performing like a superstar at 70 at the moment.

5 of anything is really fine, it's just never going to be an ideal composition to only use one class. But sure, if you think it'd be fun then there's nothing wrong with druids. Also, druids get a non-cooldown rez now, I believe! Shaman are just great because of some of the things they can do to counter some issues such as corpse runs, fear, and easy healing. But without stacking totem buffs anymore, there's no huge DPS advantage at all to using a shaman team over any other.

5 druids is working out for me even if they are low levels. The binifit of having 5 boomkin is that you can go to a Bear, 3 Boomkin, Tree setup and run any five man instance you want. With the new swipe you can hold AOE agro and drop AOE damage and focus fire large pulls down. Additionally, with the new rez that druids got, you can rez normally and you have 5 combat rez's to deal out in emergency's. I am still trying to decide what the best way to macro this is, but any one of the DPS could cast it or the healer.

Essentially you have 4 battle rez's at any time, 5 major armored DPSers for questing, a true tank and healer for instances, and cheap transportation until epic flight form and cold weather flying. Right now as far as I am concerned they are most likely one of the better multi-box PVE combos.

5 bears dancing in a circle FTW. Good luck with your Doomkin box.

5 boomkin for pve is imo amazing, but...

For pvp i would love to hear from someone who is making it work really well and what they are doing. Seems like in pvp there would be some real problems to work out.

    I'm trying this soon.
Just got off AV 70 playing my hunters, just 2 boomkins were making a mess of everything,in melee.
I will say i don't think they are strict front line pushers, they seem to play in the middle of the pack well.
Excellent at pulling people off flags and onto freindly fire.
Hard to pin down, with travel form, and hard to sight as moonfire doesnt line back to the caster,(i must have spent precious seconds swiveling around trying to locate the damn thing, meanwhile all i'm hearing is ,boom boom boom.)
Its really got my interest perked.

    Starfall + Celestial Focus.

The chance is 15%...I expect it's "15% over the duration of the spell" a la the warlock hellfire stun or mage blizzard chill effects. But even then, 5x moonkin casting talented Starfall gives you an (1 - (0.85^5)) = 55.6% chance to stun for 3 sec per target. While doing rather substantial damage. Definately amusing. The "max 20 hits" and "buff on caster" aspects of the spell means it may be per tick and not total chance over a completed channel.

And yes, stealth runs are giggles.

For PVP, I imagine you would make one be a Treekin instead, then it's largely a variation on the Xzin method but with the OOM looming more heavily.

My 5 only just got level 63 but questing is a breeze. My damage seems to have increased a bit since the update, 1 starfall (5) kills any mob my level and a single starfall crit is taking equal level mobs to half HP.

I haven't had to drink once since 60, not sure if its the new mana on crit mechanics or just the fact that everything dies in 1 cast.

I have yet to PVP or instance though, I guess instances would be impossible without respeccing one to feral and one to restro.

With the new talent tree you can now skip natures grace if you aren't keen on having to mash buttons thanks to the procs.
