Well you dont gain ram by going from 32bit OS to 64bit OS if you only have 4G of ram. 64 bit OS has to store everything in 64 bits. So programs written in 32 bit become 10-20 percent LARGER when ran on a 64 bit system simply because the addresses are longer as is the data. So if you see 2.8 G out of 4 in 32 bit OS you might get more ram avaialable wiht 64 bit operating system but all your programs take more space so you dont gain much. And Vista64 vs. XP32 well Vista is going to run more junk in the background anyways so again no gain.

Now if you go to 8G then ya you sure will get improvment from a 64 bit OS.

Ya I know you can have a SSD with a 32 bit or 64 bit OS. And i kinda figured that one is made up of physical nand gates on silicon and the other is binary code in software. So ya they are kinda two different things wouldnt you say?

They are both methods to increase frame rates and are similar in that respect.


Im taking a basic method. Raptors and 4G with 32 bit OS, not the best for sure but the cheapest by far. If I need more to run more then 5 clients then Ill move to SSD or RamDisk or ServerMotherboard as needed.

Now I'm getting a little bit confused here.

Sam, are you talking about SSD or a RAMDisk? I mean, SSD is fast but I don't think it would be nearly fast enough to run 30 WoW's on one computer. If you are talking about running a 64-bit OS and then maxxing ram out to 16GB or even 32GB and setting up a RAMDisk with, say, 10GB (on the 16 GB configuration), I think that might be fast enough to possibly handle the load. You could run the main OS off of an SSD drive, then with each boot-up, autostart a RAMDisk and copy the WoW files from the SSD to the RAMDisk.

Booting would be a pain each time, but I would venture to guess that the RAMDisk would be fast as lightning!

I dont think you need either a ramdisk (seperate addon board) or SSD drive if you have the system ram.

Here are the 4 choices:

I understand where you are coming from; by ramdisk I ment a seperate product, not setting up a ram disk in system ram. Im not really sure how you would set things up with a 32G system ram system. Maybe you would make part of it a ram disk maybe not. And you are correct you will not run 30 wow's with a SSD or even the add on ram disk, only the server motherboard with 32G system ram will let you get 30 wow's.
At any rate there are only 4 choices to make, and the faster you want the more you pay.
