    Default MACOSX CloneKeys users support

    Greetings,

I am new to dual/multi-boxing and noticed there isn't a lot out there for the Mac users so I was hoping to start a new thread. (Don't flame us, we are who we are =P). Honestly, I am a more of a Win/*NIX kinda guy who'se hardware at home is better off using his MAC. Anyway, I dug around and am hoping I am not missing the thread that already exists for the Mac community. If not..here we go.

First off, I read multiple benchmark test sites and they say WoW runs better on OSX Tiger than it does on Leopard. I have noticed a slight difference between the two. Secondly, from what I understand - the Intel based MACS can just use 3rd party apps such as parallel to emulate KeyClone rather than use the unsupported mac version CloneKeys. Myself, however..I am running on the older PowerPC infrastructure and do not have this capability. Don't get me wrong, my box is supreme 8GB RAM, dual 2.2GHz, 512mb video card and I am currently manually running 4 clients just fine, although, since I can only manually control about two i leave it at that. That is why I am here..so I can help automate the process.

What I have experienced so far is that after broadcasting to all 4 wow apps, I can emulate key strokes. However, I can only seem to emulate them when CloneKeys is "on top" of the other windows which makes it impossible to play/control characters. I am having the same problem with Ventrilo, at least i think its related - basically, I have to have vent on top in order to press to talk. Since I am not an OSX expert I have a feeling there is an environmental setting withint he OS itself that is doing this. I had a feeling it was related to the Dashboard always being on top. Can anyone provide their expertise on this matter? I am sure i am not the only one..

Please feel free to comment and/or make suggestions for all Mac OSX users out there. Let's make a home for Q&A

    Thanks,

    - Dray

clonekeys development has been taken up by clonedkeys, still not as good as keyclone for the pc

Nice, didn't even know about clonedkeys, had been using the older clonekeys for a bit. Just recently took up dualboxing to powerlevel a character via the refer-a-friend promotion.

Clonedkeys has a few updates that make it more usable, though I've found that later on, when you start needing higher complexity in your group macros and actions, hotkeys start seeming necessary. I'm running 5 clients on a macbook pro with only clonedkeys. I have not had the problem you've had with the on top stuff.

To fix the "on-top" issue for both Ventrilo and CloneKeys you need to turn on universal access for assisted devices

    To do this:

    1) Apple->System Preferences
    2) Universal Access
    3) At the bottom of the universal access pane is a "Enable access for assistive devices - this needs checked

You should be good to go :-)

    Default ClonedKeys

Sorry, I was referring to this particular app, ClonedKeys, not CloneKeys sorry for the mixup. I am running the current .2 beta and am experiencing the issue

    Default Mac multiboxing

Is anyone here using a newer imac or the mac pro with quad cores or 8 core. I'm was looking to upgrade to the new imac 24", and now I want to multibox, mainly because i waste too much time trying to get groups together. Wasting an hour getting an instance run together and then half way through someone drops has almost pushed to me to quit wow.

I know someone that multiboxes 5 shammies, but uses 5 pc's. the thought of spending $4k, and endless hours setting up windows systems is something I don't want to do. isn't that why we stop using pc's in the first place. I don't want to have to reboot 5 pc's every time i want to play wow. Searching the web has not helped in solving the mac multibox questions I have. I am now looking to purchase the new mac pro (8-core) to multibox. is anyone here using this system? if so could you please post a how to guide for me and anyone else interested in using this machine. for $2700 it seems reasonable price to pay for the horsepower it provides. I also see you can reduce $500 and only have one xeon quad processor. Any thoughts on running only one quad processor and using the money to upgrade the video card, Ram, or hard drive, because i have read some PC posters running windows on only one quad processor, so this seems to be enough processing power.

plus if you could post any add-ons that you are using, i do realize that our options are slightly limited compared to the pc.

    thanks in advance.
