Multi-Boxing Concerns...

Hey all -

I am currently trying to box 3 mages + 1 shaman (alliance). The mages are gnome, and the shaman...well is obviously draenie.

I have a few concerns I would like some help with:
1) Gold. I am on a new server (mass reroll to a friends server) - and thus have no 70 to support boxing. My friend will likely help me by giving me X hundreds of gold.
One thing I have noticed is you get hardly ANY money from grinding (split between 4 guys) and well...quests are hard to come by - they are all collection quests and these seem
absolutely intolerable to the multi-boxer.

This is not my biggest concern... but I would like gold to buy the talents/mounts as I level up (currently using level 2 talents at 10....)

2) Gear.
Since we can't do a lot of quests because they are collection... we miss out on a lot of gear from quests. How am I suppose to gear up the toons so they aren't completely gimp?

3) DPS.
3 mages (1 frost??, 2 fire??) + 1 shaman (elemental??? see below).
I am scared I don't have DPS enough to do instances. Actually I'm sure of it that I can't - brings us back to gear question (2). But this should be plenty of DPS just for PVE world grinding?

4) Specs.
3 mages...
I was planning on doing 1 frost - slow the enemy with frostbolts and 2 fire - burn the enemy down with massive burst.
Would it be better to have 3 fire? since DPS is kinda gimp (above... 4 people, 1 shaman :-\) and they have better synergy with each other... or
would it be better to have 3 frost?? all benefiting from shatters... less DPS, more synergy, more mana efficiency, more ways to survive...

1 shaman..
elemental - go along the lines of being more mage-like so while we cast fireballs he is casting lightning bolts? then do chain heals/healing waves when needed....
or
resto? do we need him to spec resto in order to have decent healing?


5) Leveling
this is kind of unrelated to multi-boxing but this is my first alliance character - have pretty much no idea where the hot spots of leveling are. Looked up some guides but they haven't helped much. So looking for a "boxing friendly" level hot spots where you can get some good grinding and good slaying quests (non-collection). Or is instancing the way to go?

ok 1st off you're right gold sucks for multiboxing unless you have a high level to help support you. Not saying its impossible to come by but with all proceeds being divided into 4ths it takes a while to amass any real monies.

2nd - dont worry about gear at all. Running 4 toons you will decimate anything PVE world you come across. Even with crappy crappy gear.

3rd - for leveling I would personally spec all the mages fire. Makes it easier to keep up with spell rotation and you pretty much bbq anything b4 it can even reach you.

4th - You will level so fast and will practically outlevel most lower level areas that you should skip just about ANY collection quests. If you decided to stay in the gnome starting area I would recommend making your way to IF and then to SW. Elwynn and then westfall are great areas for kill quests, special object collections (ie. go get grandmas necklace, so all can loot it together), some escorts, and Hogger! Once your done with that area you can either make your way to Duskwood, or Redridge. Duskwood has several kill quests as well.

Overall sounds like you're putting way too much thought in this. Go play, have fun.....you will find yourself leveling so fast that the need for gear becomes moot. Once you get higher levels and get some monies under your belt then you can worry about gear. Any monies you get now should be held for training. I have a pair of shaman I RAF'd to 60 and both are still wearing a couple of lvl 20ish items.

You're going to outlvl area's fast, whether you are doing RAF or not. I've rolled three sets of toons to 60 in under 10 days Real time recently and would finish off my set of class's before LK launch if I wasn't going to Dubai on Tuesday.
All of my toons are completely undergeared, but the mass amount of damage they are doing is just tremendous.

you want to make gold fast? WOTLK....gather herbs, mining, leather in that order. Keep the herbs for the WOTLK and sell the early ones for tons of cash in AH when its released. You will always be able to make gold in AH by selling ore and leather. And dont forget the cloth you can sell as well....Make

Make sure you have an enchanter in your group. DE every green/blue you get. Keep in the bank and sell when you get it full. Make sure you have Auctioneer so you can see what the going prices are.

Pretty simple to make gold if you know what to sell.

1- yeah like I said I have a few friends that will probably help my funds - but feel kinda like a jerk asking for 2k gold lol
2- Seems like until outlands the gear is pretty much crap anyways - might only be difference between 0 spell damage to about 40.
3 - All fire is probably what I'll do - still use frostbolt to snare?
4 - everyone says you outlvl places very quickly - seems like it's kinda slow... splitting XP between 4 guys to lvl 10 seems kinda slow - getting 23xp a kill when on the shaman leveling elsewhere I get maybe 50-60xp a kill. Guess the price you pay to want to level 4 at once?

Gold will always be short without a gift from friends, but not crippling. Just don't repair as you will probably grow out of gear before it turns red anyway. so it would be advised to just "faceroll" through instances? maybe make sure im in the upper bracket of the instance levels and bring along some healer to heal me (since I only have 4..)?

The first time or two you will find the instances difficult, but a few runs getting your attack sequence right it will be cakewalk. With 5 members I start instances at the lowest "recommended" level, sometimes I need a level or two to complete it, but rarely feel overwhelmed by trash. With 4 might want to wait till middle levels, YMMV. Your damage output will be high, 3 sheep, after a bit of practice you should stomp right on through.
