A huge trick for almost all bosses is physically placing the mages in separate spots. Individually moving them to separate positions before you attack the boss. Doing this gives you a few advantages -
mobs have to run from mage to mage if they get aggro, reducing the amount of damage you take.
mages automatically target the closest mob closest to them, allowing them to target different mobs.
your characters are less previous to AoE attacks.
