I personally run my quad core affinity for 5 clients as follows:
Client 1 - Core 0,1
Client 2 - Core 1,2
Client 3 - Core 2,3
Client 4 - Core 3,1
Client 5 - Core 0,1,2,3
My CPU usage scales quite smoothly across all 4 cores.
