well, ive been tinkering and scouring the web all day since posting this, and ive come to the conclusion that the simplest way may be to simply use the old fashioned alt+tab method of switching btwn active wow windows as im only using two.

i really liked the idea of picture-in-picture as a means to keep real-time tabs on my second toon, but im not convinced it's worth the precious screen real estate.

still very open to suggestion if some1 does know a way of hiding the PiP.
i dont think there's a feature that will turn off PiP and turn it on again. you'll have to manually minimize it in order to see the entire main window.

what you can do is just download an actionbar addon and a tooltip addon to move tihngs around, if you put your PiP window on the bottom or right, or bottom right of the screen. if you put your PiP window on the top left of your screen, get a unit frames addon that will move your unit frames around. for actionbars the most popular ones are bongos, bartender, and trinity. you can use cowtip as a tooltip mover. it has other features too. for unit frames, off the top of my head there's pitbull and xperl. try using those to move your buttons and things around. good luck.
