Hi,

I am rather new to MBing and have only recently got my 5-team to 60. I am hoping to do instances in the future and was reading about set-ups and configurations etc.. I currently run two computers (one XP and one Vista), two monitors, two keyboards all independent using Synergy and Keyclone. Four accounts on one computer my main/leader account on the other. I want to increase the number of programmable keys to make things easier since I run 5 different classes and want to maximize the abilities if I can. I am looking into the X-keys Pro, but was also wondering if there was a possibly cheaper and simpler route (I was inspired by the keyboard footpedal creation!).

I was reading through these forums and someone mention a "ghetto" setup where you can just physcially tape down the CTRL or SHIFT key (or both) on the keyboard and get the function of multiple keystrokes by pressing a single key. Now, it appears you cannot use two keyboards on a single computer independent of one another (i.e., if I press SHIFT on one and type with the other the text is in CAPS). Would it be possible to do this with Y-key??? or would it just assume that the keyboard with the keys taped down is always the active one?

Now, the reason I am asking is because this would be a cheap "ghetto" way of getting pseudo-programmable keys. I have a small 89key keyboard that I could hookup with the CTRL and SHIFT always active and just hit whatever key I want. Would be way cheaper than using a programmable keyboard. Of course, it doesn't seem like it's very feasible anyway.....

so, anyone have any experience with Y-key from PI Engineering? Or some software that allows for this?

Cheers.
