Default Hoofu & Oggie want to go to Northrend together!

I have two 70s, Hoofu (in Kara/Badge/SSC/MH gear) and Oggie (in blues and 4 solo epics). Rather than decide which to level to 80 first, I thought I'd have a go at doing it dual-box!

I've watched a few videos and read a few intros, I just felt like I'd get some thoughts down before I splash out on a new account and a character transfer and a copy of Keyclone.

I want to still be able to play them solo, to go do instances with my friends with either one, so I don't want to disrupt their action bars too much - or are there add-oons that will save and restore action bar settings? Oggie, being a warrior, has plenty of spare buttons but Hoofu is jam packed because of all the totems. Should I be able to get away with just using Action Bar 2 for the abilities that they will use in combination with each other? Hoofu will save a few buttons with some totem spells being removed/combined, and I'm sure I can be a little more economical than I am, so maybe I'll have 20 buttons that I'll dedicate to dual-boxing macros.

Is there any mileage in having a single key that activates one warrior ability and one shaman ability? For instance, Whirlwind and Chain Lightning? Devastate and Earth Shock? Slam and Lesser Healing Wave? Or should I keep the numbers for the warrior and use some other keys such as H for Heal, L for Lightning, and T for a Totem castsequence?

For moving, I'll obviously have a /follow macro, but if I have WASD for my warrior and Up Down Left Right for my shaman, then I can control them independently for combat positioning! Does that sound workable? Also, investing in a Mechano-hog (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Domin.../~3/407101710/) is probably a good move!

if you duplicate your wow folders you will be able to have different keybindings and macros.
    That's what i do:
when i play my solo toon it's from c:\games\wow\wow.exe
when i play it with the other 2 clones i play it from c:\games\wow-MAIN\wow.exe
and the clones from c:\games\wow-CLONE1\wow.exe and c:\games\wow-CLONE2\wow.exe

(you can symlink the data, etc folders to have only 1 physical space used - the settings are all in the WTF folder)

note however that if you move your icons then they will move on all wows since they are server hosted.

Next is to define which will be your main/leade toon. I guess the warrior, as the sham can probably stay in the back and dps/heal, as needed.
From then on, if you still have some place on the warrior keybinds, just map them to the shaman keys and there you go!

you can have up to 10 rows of button bars, so just use different ones for solo and multibox play and switch accordingly

How do you access bars 7-10?

You access the extra bars with addons I believe (or using the extra 2 bottom and 2 side bars from wow's interface options). I'd recommend Trinity Bars.

Another note, copying your wow folder for the purpose of having multiple macro setups wont work since those will be held server side too (like the keys).

I would use a bar addon and dedicate a bar for your macro's/multiboxing setup that you can enable/disable as needed while keeping your normal setup intact (keybindings aren't saved server side so you can split up your folders for that purpose).

When it comes to combining buttons you'll want to think about them cos you might not want your shaman to heal every single time your warrior slams and so forth.

Another option is to assign the keypad buttons as your healing buttons and leave your 1-= keys plainly for your various attacks. The question also to as is are you both melee or is it melee and elemental if you are then its quite a different play style for those, if your Enh your good since they will play as 2 melee. Reason I say this is because if your going to be following and what not you will get all mest up with the control of those 2, well at least at first after a while you will get used to the set up and pwnwtf a lot of stuff.

Have fun there is a lot of options for you and lots to figure out, but once those are done it will be lots of fun.

I'm sure macros are held client-side.

Really? I thought key bindings were server side.

In that thread I explain my setup, it allows you to play either character individually at the same time as being able to multibox.

Macro's are held client side, in the expac they are stored server side.
Keybindings are stored client side, the contents of the action bars will be stored server side in the expac as they are now.

Key bindings are client side. Otherwise every time I log onto my friends account he would kill me for switching up his shit ^_^
