Default Extra Video card Vs. more Ram

Hello, I am recently new to the Multi-boxing world. I am a wow player, I can currently only run 2 -4, video settings change for four. I am planning on building a new system, some of the basics are:

Mother Board: NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775
    Video card: GeForce GTX 280
    Memory: Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000

I cannot decide to either get another Video card to SLI or get another set of the 4G ram.
I am leaning towards the Ram, remember this is for running 5 wows +vent +music + Firfox.

Any help would be much appriciated.

    yes, vista 64 bit.

I was debating because my brother(who is a little more hardware savvy than i am) said that i do not need more than 4g of ram and then suggested i invest in another video card.
My dad however said that i would not even us the video card to its full potential playing wow and it would be better invested in more ram.

    More RAM...

I had 2 graphic cards in my rig and didnt notice any difference (and SLI is pretty useless for multiboxing).

    More ram.

1GB per WoW client is nice. With 8GB total, that leaves ample room for Vista.

Thanks, I have decided for more ram. I can't wait until i get my system up.

Good to see you have gone for more RAM :P

If this rig is going to primarily be for multiboxing the other I would consider a couple of changes. GTX280 is probably overkill even for a 30 inch 2560 X 1600 setup. You could back off to a GTX 260 easily or 4870 for about half the price.

The other thing to consider would be RAM. DDR3 is expensive and you don't really need the speed, just the volume. You could get a P45 motherboard and 4 x 4GB DDR2 RAM for less than your existing specs which would be more effective as well as cheaper.

I know this board doesn't SLI for future use but you could always grab a 4870x2 if you wanted more power in the future (or whatever else AMD/NVIDIA comes up with for their next dual core board).

    Cheers

Agreed more RAM for your buck vs. 2 video cards in SLI mode you wont need it anyways. WoW is not exactly a graphic monster of a game and RAM dedicated to each window would be good, even if you do get 2 video cards you dont get anything from SLI'ng them for the purpose of WoW you can just have 2 cards for up to 4 monitors.

GTX280 is a definite overkill go with the 260 not as beefy but for WoW 260 is just a step down from the 280 so you wont lose much and will pay a whole lot less.

Again on the RAM as suggested go higher end DDR2 you will not really see much of a change when talking WoW unless you are doing something else that requires you to have the higher end DDR3 then you dont need it.

These suggestions will bring down the price of your over all system, it alreayd looks like a monster of a gaming rig with what you have planned stepping down some of them and saving some money will allow you to go with the 2 video cards.
