Default Dedicated healer Resto Shaman ------ Vyndree please help :)

Hello guys. I ding 67 on my team, Prot. Pally and 4 Ele Shamans. I understand that I dont need a Resto spec yet but I want to start getting familiar with a Resto on my team before I hit 70. What I really want to know is how this Resto will interact on my team? I mean, I keep DPSing with him or this will OOM my Resto? Or only DPS with the Elementals and use the Resto at heals? Maybe the questions sound silly but this is my first 5box high lvl team. I use the search post but didnt find answer to this. Thanks to any help.

PD : Using the search post is how I know that Vyndree must know a lot of this theme

The way i work my resto shaman in boss fights is to use

    #show Chain Heal
    /use 14
    /target [target=focustargettarget]
    /castsequence ,,,,,,,,,,,Chain heal,,,,,,,,,,,

I put this on key that corrosponds to my dps button and my tank spam button. This way ill always be doing a heal every few seconds (Spam buttons ftw). My healer has the least problems with mana of the few. I use the numpad as a dedicated spot for my healer keys which are set to do Healing wave for each of my people, a chain heal on 1 of the shamans. mana tide and a Earth shield on Focus. And a focustargettarget of each heal.
So far i havent run into many real problems and the shaman still heals fine when playing solo.

When im out questing ill just move that macro to another button and swap in the same lbolt macro that the other 3 have.

I do something similar, I have /cast [target=focustarget] Healing Wave(Rank 7) on my resto shaman on my normal lb spam button, so he's always healing my prot pally for a small amount. Rarely goes low on mana, since he'll usually regen almost the entire cast amount of mana in a few seconds. And of course same thing, have some numpad buttons assigned to healing various people just with the resto shaman, and when everyone is taking tons of damage everyone casts chain heal on themselves (/cast [target=player] Chain Heal(Rank X))

Yep i have a dedicated heal button on my g15 for each shaman to cast on a single shaman for dires times. and the chain link button for each to cast on another shaman therby healing everyone at once.
It usually takes something stupid for me to die. ie fear on the pally,or sheeped or something annoying that i just figure its quicker to just wipe, res and keep going.

I typically leave my resto shaman to have all DPS buttons (rank 1 earth shock, full rank chain lightning, rank 1 Frost shock, max rank flame shock, etc) to DPS with and replace my "spam button" (i.e. lightning bolt, holy shield) with a healing button.

Currently resto shaman (at raid level) can spam chain heal rank 4 indefinitely with regular mana tides. However, it can also be useful to maintain a healing way stack on your tank. This is my spam button:
    /castsequence [target=focus,help,nodead][target=party1,help,nodead] reset=15/combat Healing Wave(rank 1), Chain Heal(rank 4), Healing Wave(rank 1)

I also have individual buttons (i like to use SHIFT+1, SHIFT+2, SHIFT+3, etc) for max rank Healing Wave, max rank Chain Heal, max rank LHW, Earth Shield. I can target anyone with these specific macros -- the "spam" button basically healbots through normal damage and keeps up my Healing Way buff.

In any case, I didn't put a dedicated healer into my group until 70, so take that as you will. Yes, I did do instances all the way up to 70, and no... for normal instances you do not need a specced healer. But it's good practice if you'd like to try it out. The thing I forget the most is to refresh ES.

Thank you very much for all the replys guys. Until now lesser healing from the 4 shamys is working awesome on my pally but yeah, I want to get the idea for those HEROIC moments . I will try some of those ideas. TY

Soon will be another 70 team on the MB family

Hey. I would propose you make the Chain heal another target than itself, since if you are getting hit, the large portion of the heal will take longer to hit you. So, have 1 heal 2, 2 heal 3, 3 heal 4 and 4 heal 1.
Currently not boxing, info below is not really relevant.

Have an exists/nodead check too, and then have it cast on another one if they aren't there/dead.

    /cast [target=2,exists,nodead] chain heal
    /cast [target=3,exists,nodead] chain heal
    ...until you run out
    /cast [target=self] chean heal

That way if one of them dies the one that targets the dead one will cast on another. Just going in order(1 does 23451, 2 does 34512, etc.) will spread out the first hit of the heals so everyone gets one because if one dies then the one that would heal the dead one heals the dead one's target. This works with any heal and any number of healers.

The only drawback to this method is they can get out of range, but you can use a modifier or another key if you have spare to switch between this and self targeting.
