    Default Professions in WotLK

    Hello,

I am playing 4 shamans and until now I haven't thought about professions. My characters is 4/5 brutal, full guardian and for pve it's a mix of kz/badge/pvp. It's pretty fail I haven't done ANY professions yet, but I've seen other things as more important. Now I am sitting with my flying epic mount, alot of gold and nothing to do except for arena (when there's teams to play against), so how I should I use all the other playtime I got before the release WotLK? I've decided to look at the professions for WotLK and it's really difficult to decide which professions to go with. I want to min/max as much as possible, which means I'll go with the same professions on every character. That means I am looking for the professions, that'll improve my characters the most - with the specific perks that all professions will have in WotLK.

Have you looked into it? Have you decide to reroll professions and take others?

There's alot of information over at elitistjerks - http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t29288-w...ession_thread/.

Well that is the thread I would have pointed you to to be honest. It has some great information, but it's hard to find amongst all the trash.

I'd say a couple of things:

    1) It is a actually a great time to level professions atm, with the exception of alchemy/inscription. People are dumping their mats on the AH at rock bottom prices, so the overall cost of levelling I'd estimate to be around 30% lower than usual.
    2) You can't go too far wrong with Leatherworking. It'll give you a nice head start whilst gearing up in Wrath, although eventually (as in TBC) I'm sure the gear will become outdated, but it's a nice start.
    3) Other options are pretty varied i guess, as per that thread, enchanting is a solid and consistent boost, alchemy is great if you can be bothered to craft the right pots and use them etc etc
    4) I suspect there will be a distinct advantage in actually having the same profs on all your chars in Wrath, as some recipies will only be only available through tradeskill specific dailies (I have many profs on mine, and I fear having to do many different dailies to get the recipies I want).

Although a bit of an overkill, I am planning to get inscription on all my shamans; 4x chain lightning that can hit 16 targers all crits just make me drool with amazement.

why would you need inscription on all shamans for that? Glyphs are not soulbound, one person can make them and give them to all the shamans. originally the inscriptor was supposed to get an extra major glyph, but last I heard even this was out - the only benefit so far being an epic BoE offhand, and a shoulder enchant slightly better than the new faction shoulder enchant.

Leatherworking or enchanting or blacksmithing seems better at the moment in terms of self-buffs, although the difference is so minor. Frankly its better to just spread out all the profs over your entire team, so everything can be covered. Even for leatherworking, everything except one or two pieces seem BOE at the moment, but obviously we haven't seen all the recipes yet.

    Currently I have:
    375 Mining/JC (Paladin)
    375 LW/Skinner (Shaman)
    375 BS/Tailor (Shaman)
    375 Herb/Alch (Shaman)
375 Enchanting (Shaman) - I have the mats in my bank to power level Inscription to almost 350 as of the current beta build.

I feel having all professions will be a huge bonus to me, since I will not have to deal with as many other people for things that I need made. The only problem that I may have will be the daily quests for professions (JC for example). Hopefully it all works out!

Inscription is supposed to give you another gyph spot. So i think it is yet to be known if it is worth having 3 major gyphs over 2. But this very well could be a good option.

    Currently I have:

    Paladin: Blacksmithing/Engineering
Resto-shammie: Herbalism/none (room for inscription - bought herbs)
    Ele-shammie1: Mining/alchemy
    Ele-shammie2: Enchanting/jewelcrafting
Ele-shammie3: Nothing (chucking him out when 3.0 hits)
    Druid: Skinning/leatherworking

That way I'll get some nice BoP items for my tank and druid, have all the gathering professions, and self-supplying on enchants/glyphs/potions.

I really like how blacksmithing looks for wotlk and I assume engineering will keep supplying a decent head-item and some neat gadgets :-)

    Currently

    Alchemy/mining
    alchemy/skinning
    alchemy/herbing
    alchemy/jewelcrafting
    alchemy/enchanting

did alchemy for the 5x transmute spec which has been rolling it in and i expect it to bring in more when wrath comes out of the wotlk equivalent primal mights are in high demand.

also alchemy is a good choice imo for 2nd profession for those arena junkies. having a pot in arena will be amazing.

also, currently you get 3 major 3 minor glyph slots, and if you pick up inscription you only get an extra minor glyph slot. personally, i dont think its worth it. unless you want some of the bop items it created. im going to pick up inscription on an alt that i soloplay once inawhile to just have an inscriptionist.

all my toons have been alchemy/tailoring, save for 3-4 which I use for skinning/mining/herbalism, as well as 1 of each other prof.
The alcy/tailor xmute's are just cash cows
