OTR (On The Road) Multi-Boxing

I would like to try multi-boxing WOW but my job takes me all over the country. However, I'm not sure if I want to attempt multi-boxing on just one laptop (it's a good laptop but I don't think it can handle the load). I was thinking that with the arrival of Dell's new Inspiron Mini 9 laptop, it would now be possible to use my main laptop in conjunction with 1 or 2 of these mini laptops. I will experiment first with my current laptop and my old laptop soon (about 1 month) and report my findings. I was wondering if anyone here has made an attempt to multi-box with a single or multiple laptops while away from home. Any info will help.

they wont be able to run wow, but asus n10 has a 10' screen, 2g ram, 256mb dedicated nvidia, 250g harddrive, abgn wifi, under 900

You may be right, the ASUS N10's specs looks impressive and the Mini 9's CPU + GPU would probably be too small to handle WOW. What I'm looking for is the smallest PORTABLE multi-boxing setup possible using as little equipment as possible. Two powerful 17" notebooks or a well-built, durable home system with 2 monitors are possibilities. This idea is still in the research stage. Thanks for your info. how about the Alienware M17x with dual 8800GTX will run 5x copies of WOW @ 30fps on a 1,920x1200 screen

Yeah the AW should cruise with 5 x WoW. I run 5 x on my old XPS 7950GTX 7200CPU 4G RAM quite comfortably, only lagging with >20ppl on screen... apparently this can be addressed with a SSD.

Prepared is running something like 32 boxes and I think alot of these are ran on laptops. If I remember correctly he had laptops that were running 3 boxes per. PM him for the stats maybe.

This is VERY true indeed!

My best laptop is the Fujitsu Lifebook N6470 Notebook computer. It has a 17 inch screen and it can run 3 copies of WoW pretty well with all graphics options turned down in the game. It has Duo Core Intel at 1.83ghz, 3gb ram and the ATI Radeon HD2600 with 512Mb of memory. It even has a Blue Ray burnable disc drive so you can write Blue Ray and see Blue Ray movies on it.

My other 3 laptops also run 3 copies of WoW with all graphics options turned down. They're the Fujitsu Lifebook N6460 but not sure those are being made any more. 17 inch screen 2gb ram, ATI Radeon HD2600 with 512mb, Duco Core Intel at 2.0ghz.

Then my other 2 laptops also run 3 copies of WoW with all graphics options turned down and they are the HP Pavilion DV9740us Notebook PC with 3gb ram, Duo Core Intel at 1.66ghz, nvidia GeFOrce 8600M GS with 512mb ram, 17 inch screen.


All of them were purchased at Fry's Electronics.

check out the tc1100 hp tablet, you can get them off of ebay for about 400 bucks a piece, mine runs wow, its not great but for slaves its not a big deal

Thanks for all the info, it's been very helpful. I was looking for a cost-effective solution with as small a footprint (portability) as possible. It would appear that there isn't one (for now). I could try 2-man boxing on 1 laptop with an extra hard drive and one of those notebook coolers that you place under your notebook to help keep the cpu/gpu cool. Maybe a lanbox would be better suited for this portable 5-man boxing task. I'll look into that with a new thread.
