Hello everyone. I am new to the forums (though I have been lurking for a couple weeks) and to multi boxing in general. I have seen it in action several times and have been very impressed. Not only does it appear to be hella fun but also hella efficient and effective. After giving it considerable thought I have decided to take the plunge.
A dedicated rig is being designed as we speak and the funds have already been set aside for this project. The game and purpose have been selected as well, World of Warcraft with an emphasis on pvp. This is where you come in..,
.., with my primary goal being pvp (high end arenas – at least I hope they become high end) it is time to select the class and spec that will be most effective for my purposes. I intend to three, four or five box the same class (for the sake of simplicity, I will perhaps move to additional classes for the sake of balance with more experience).
During my thoughts on the matter it has occurred to me that the best “team” would be a burst set up. Mages strike me as potentially awesome, especially in WotLK given mirror image, but frost or arcane? Arcane seems to have better burst potential (and slow is delicious in pvp) however, frost has very good damage in its own right and much better survivability. My very first toon was a mage (currently lvl 70) and I continue to play it on and off.
Shaman.., I am confident in saying that they are the prime multi boxing choice for a reason, excellent burst, very good survivability, mobility and heals, but what is the preferred spec, enhancement or elemental for this purpose? I have only toyed with shaman and have not played them past lvl 20. I did like the feel of the class and enjoyed it but alas, my other toons demanded my attention at the time.
Warlocks.., having my own lvl 70 lock and having earned rank 13 under the old system I have a pretty good idea on what makes them tick. Affliction lacks burst (but good god the dots!) as does demo so my best bet would probably be destro however, am I correct in assuming that the relative lack of instants could potentially be detrimental?
Shadow Priests.., their only burst comes from casting or channeling spells and given the relative lack of developer attention I am not particularly enthused about this prospect.
Rogues/warriors.., I feel melee teams would be too hard to manage, but there is one possible exception..,
Ret Paladins.., they will benefit perhaps the most of any class to new damage capabilities, but they are still melee. Regardless, plate, heals and incredible survivability/burst are attractive, but are they worth the effort in your minds? My guess is that caster heavy teams would tear me apart.
Hunters.., I also have a 70 hunter with whom I have done a considerable amount of pvp so I am fairly confident in my ability to grasp the class. Unfortunately, hunters are among the least played classes in arena for a reason, line of sight. This class has more trouble with it than any of the rest. I love my hunter; it is very fun, but los, los, los…
Druids.., normally I would laugh at this given the nerfs to feral but what about boomkin? My experience with this class is very limited as I have rolled two and deleted both at lvl 10 due to the pain. Thoughts?
My inclination is shaman or mage. Shaman will give me better survivability but imagine five boxing a mage in WotLK arena and casting mirror image? Mass confusion to be sure and they still have sensational burst. I would love to hear the views of you experienced boxers with thoughts, comments and suggestions, and I appreciate you taking the time to read this fairly winded post. Thanks a bunch, I’m looking forward to your replies.
