This works perfectly fine and many of us use this very method for setting focus.

Your target line is the problem. Here's the one I use on my locks:

It checks them in order and targets the FIRST name in the sequence that meets the parameters. So, by default, it targets one of my two mains (diego/luciano) and if they're dead, starts walking down the line to find the first live body, then if nobody's alive, it focuses my mains again so I can graveyard run the whole troop back to the corpses.
