Default [WOW] Help chosing dual-boxing combo

Due to the amazing awesomeness that is the RAF program, I have decided that some time in the very near future I will activate a second account and experiment with dual-boxing for the first time. I have always had the idea in the back of my head, since I play the game a lot anyway and there are times where having 2 accounts would be extremely convenient even if I were just playing 1 character. Additionally, I think the challenge of micro-managing two characters at once would add a new level of excitement and difficulty to the game that I feel it badly needs.

Anyway, I have decided that I want to run two characters at once, but as of right now am still up in the air as to what the characters should be. I know there are some commonly agreed upon 2 class combos that work together really well, and ideally I would like to use a combo like that. Examples of this would be things like Warlock/Shadowpriest, or Enhance Shaman/Ret Paladin. At the same time though, I have never actually dual-boxed before, so I have no real idea what combos would be difficult to control, and which are preferable to dual-boxing.

The only real consideration I have when picking a class is that I dont want to level a character I already have a 70 of, thus eliminating priest, druid, hunter, and mage. Because of this, right now my two main considerations are Shaman/Rogue and Shaman/Paladin. For both combos the shaman could go enhance for leveling, and would work really well since ret paladin and rogue both benefit greatly from totems (specifically windfury) and the classes would synergize well. I could also go ele on the shamans later on since, from what I hear, a melee + ranged is easier to multibox than melee + melee.

Anyway, some input from experienced multi-boxers and WoW players would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Well, melee classes are pretty unforgiving in the slave positions. Hitting something breaks follow, so you'd have to account for and maneuver the mob to them. Casters just have to face the target, so it's much easier. ele sham + ret pally or rogue is much better, and you still can be dropping windfury.

It might even be better to level 2 of the same class/spec for a while till you get used to the new challenges faced while playing more than one toon. And don't be scared of leveling classes you already have, that knowledge would just help you in the long run. If your priest is a healer, Spriest/warlock could be the funnest spec for you to play, even comes with it's own tank - the warlock's pet.

You'll be pleasantly surprised here. It's much more fun/challenging then leveling solo. Perfecting macros and keybinds alone is challenging, something you never really have to worry about solo. Just be careful, it's a slippery slope from 2 to 3 to full-on 5 boxing.

The logic I was using when I said I was probably gonna level the shaman enhance was that it would synergize better in terms of talents and what totems I would drop. You are probably right though, since as I keep getting told by people with much more experience multi-boxing than me, a melee slave character doesn't really work too well.

And about leveling characters I already have, I plan on at some point transfering all my characters to one server, and would rather avoid having more than one 70 of the same class, since it seems like a waste to me. Plus I really doubt I have the will power to level a class I already have, even if it was while dual-boxing.

In terms of talents, yeah, it might make more sense to go enhance, but you'll also have to factor in the added hassle and dropped dps when your slave isn't facing the right way, isn't hitting anything or doing anything. Much easier just to plant the shammy, drop totems, go hit something and send a few lighting bolts the mob's way and keep your main healed up.

Also factor in that melee toons are more gear dependent than caster toons in several respects, both in armor and weapon. A caster can level almost naked, melee toons need to upgrade more often.

    Side question

If a melee slave is not good, how was that guy in bg's 5 boxing rogues.

My first dual boxing is with 2 druids one feral one balanced, basically tank and dps, one thing I like for them is simple game play (I am a first timer) so rouge + anything for me would be tough. So the shammy paladin sounds cool basically tank and spank. I'd imagine there could be some interesting AOE gring synergy with those 2 as well.

One other thing to consider is to leverage RAF level gifting, level a practical pair then gift the levels from the "unwanted" to boost one you do want but that was less practical to level.

Boxing melee classes with casters isn't difficult, it just takes more setup and macros if you want to do it properly. Most people don't bother with it, because again, it can be setup intensive. If a person were 5 boxing rogues, it would be a lot easier than say, boxing a warrior, rogue, druid, paladin, and a priest all at the same time. 5 of any one class makes boxing work like a charm, especially for people newer to the whole boxing scene.
