I'd rather throw them 20 yards away from me it still takes 3 seconds for it go off, they can easily see it and move away.
You can also drop fire nova wait for GCD thunderstorm and while they're going back get hit with the nova so they're stunned for a sec before they start heading towards you. The stun is also nice to stop people while they're pillar humping / running around you with frost shock. You do need 2 points in it though and it's too hard to get at 70 I think lol ;( 80 will be more fun.
