I just converted one of my shamen to a Resto. I currently only have +888 healing fully buffed (Elixir Draenic Wisdom and Adept's Elixir) ;(

Anyway I just tried Botanica Heroic and I found myself dying quite a lot. The lesser healing waves heal me for about 1200 - 1500 but still, at least on of my guys (Pally tank or DPS shammy died on each encounter of 1 Meander and 2 greenkeepers. I had the grounding totems up all the time, but they would knock 4 of them down after every lightning bolt. Eventually my DPS and healing coulld not outpace theirs.

So I need some advice on gear and tatics:

Tatics:
Tank spams Concecration Rank 5 and tries to hold aggro
3 Pallys spam lightning bolt at same time I press Concetration
1 Pally spams Lesser Healing wave and heals the pally for 1200 - 1400 each wave.

*I then sometimes need to throw a healing wave cast (2.5 seconds) and get healed for 3300. But that is just about the same health per second of the lesser healing wave since I can get 2 lesser healing waves off in just about the same time as 1 healing wave.

Gear:
Tank: 11.2k health, 12k armor, 500 def, 44% avoidance
3 DPS: +680 spell damage, 14% crit
1 healer: +855 healing and same +680 spell damage (but never has time to dps)

I thought I would be ready, but it seems not yet. What can you guys advise for me. I wanted to get badges to start getting better pve gear. I am sving my arena and honor for PVP gear. What should I get trying to get to help my healer, my dps and my tank?

Follow up:

I did some research on wow-loot.com and see there are some good RESTO upgrades to my gear. However most are from Heroic drops. Since I have trouble doing Botanica heroic (which is rated a 4 and supposed to be super easy), I think the others would be hard as well. Any advice on the best way to gear up a new resto shammy?

What about more avoidance on the Tank? How can I get him a bit higher so that I take less damage - would any pvp or arena gear be helpful here?

My Shammy crew will have 1300 Arena points as of next wednesday. I was going to buy the S3 pants for them. Currently have S2 weapon, S2 help and S4 hands but I am still far from having super good DPS.

Most of the LW gear you have is bind on pickup. So I would need to level LW and that alone costs a hell of a lot I believe. Maybe it is time to start on that journey

Any other ideas on how I can find a fast track to equipping a Resto Shammy?

Why does spamming healing wave beat spamming lesser healing wave? I think the health restored per second of cast time is about the same?

while you might think so, it isn't. And the more +healing you get, the better Healing Wave is compared to LHW:
Math:
LHW gets 47% of you +heal every cast, while HW gets 85%.
2.5+2.5+2.5 = 7.5s = 6855 healing + 2244 = 9099 = 1213,2HPS = 2160 mana
1.5+1.5+1.5+1.5+1.5 = 7.5s = 5560 healing + 2068 = 7628 = 1017 HPS = 2200 mana
As you can see, in 7.5 seconds you get healed for 1471 on avg. With more +heal, the difference is greater.
So, in terms of both HPS and HPM, HW is better than LHW.

what rank of healing wave gets the bonus of +healing? I am asking because spamming the big rank 11 wave is just taking too much mana an is over healing.

I do not want to get aggro on the shammy and might have to use AH bought cloth healing items until I can collect enough badges for some better gear. Thus, I would like to downgrade to rank 9 or 8 or small heals and keep the 11 for the big ones if the small ones will still take full advanage of the gear.

It seems there is nothing in the 5m runs that will be better than the blue pvp suit I have for healing. I guess I need to suck it up and see how I can make it through the instances for heroic badges.
