Default PiP switching slow - possibly because I specified the wrong res?

So I configured my PiP for 5 wow clients. I have 5 regions, one is 1024x768 in the center of my screen (for my main account), and then theres 4 regions that are 800x600 slightly staggered in a square formation, overlapping each other but all covered up by the main account window.

In the maximizer configuration, I have the w,h for the main window set to 1024,768, and then also down by the maximizer enable option I have it set to 1024x768 as well. Then, for all 4 clones I have the windows set at the top to 800,600 and then down by the enable maximizer option i have them set to 800x600 as well. I have F8 set as the hotkey for the main window (region 0), and then f9-f12 for the 4 "clone" windows.

The problem is, when I use the hotkeys to windows, it takes way too long for it to be useful for anything like instancing or PvP (probably 3-5 seconds). Now, I just watched the maximizer setup window where it places one big 1260x1050 window and then 3 smaller windows to the side of that that are 420x350 each, but I noticed on the 420x350 windows it was still set to 1260x1050 down by the "enable maximizer" button...

Should I be setting all 5 windows to 1024x768 down by the enable maximizer option, and what is the difference between doing that and doing what I'm doing right now? My 4 wow clones are physically set to 800x600 in the wow video options and I don't want to increase that which will slow my setup down, nor do I want to decrease the video settings on my main window to 800x600, but the only reason I can think of that it would take 3-5 seconds to use PiP is that the main window and clone windows are different resolutions, and I'm wondering if the maximizer bottom resolution setting fixes that, and what other effects it has. Thanks in advance!

It lags for everyone when u swap screens... Don't know why

I'm pretty sure the reason it's lagging is that anytime you adjust the screen resolution wow re-renders some of the information. So your moving 1024x768 to 800x600 and 800x600 to 1024x768 at the same time and your system re-renders both of those at the same time.

Also moving from one monitor to another might be causing some of the delay. For instance if I move a windows media player window playing something from one window to another, it lags very slightly. Both are just educated guesses =)

What is the average Pip swap time meant to be?.
For me it varies sometimes between 2 seconds and 8 depending on whats going on around me.
I know in mid combat i cant pip swap quickly but i put that down to my computer pushing itself.

it depends on a few factors, obviously.

do the regions you are trying to swap have the same aspect ratio?
    how beefy is your machine?
    how fast is your memory?
how high is the screen resolution?

also, try bringing up the maxfpsbk (it would seem to improve the first frame displayed when it's higher)

as an fyi... my 5x box will pip swap within a second. i'm running 50/50 fps @ 1920x1200 on a quad core and an nvidia 260

let me know if that helps

    Interesting, thanks for the ideas.

Not sure my box is powerful enough to raise the maxfpsbk without affecting overall performance. I have a dual core athlon x2 2.2GHz, 3GB of DDR2-800 (pc 6400), and an 8600GT. The aspect ratio is the same for all 5 wow instances, 1024x768 for the main and 800x600 for the other 4.

I guess I'm just curious what the resolution input at the bottom next to "enable maximizer" actually does? I have that set to 800x600 on all my clones but they still become 1024x768 when I switch to them using PiP (cause my main region is 1024x768).

My Phenom 9600 with an 8800gt swaps within 1-2 seconds consistantly. The main window is 1680x1050 and the smaller windows are 560,350 on a 2nd display (same card). This is generally useful in PVE to the fact that my assist macro's still work and I can start casting a spell, hit my PIP Swap and by the time it's done, it's done casting.

For PVP I find this to be unacceptable. If one of the guys goes down, I generally mouse to the window of a live character, hit the new master key for that region and carry on. I don't need details in most cases for pvp, I know the buttons I'm smashing, and I can still see important details on the main characters screen in most cases. I'm very seriously considering 3 more boxes for PVPing @ 70, I figure I'll make that call when I get there.

That box tells wow what resolution to run at. This is important if you are running less than 800x600 which is the lowest wow will do natively.

I run my clients @ 1680x1050 and 560x350... before Rob added that 2nd resolution box my clients would think they were 800x600 and be stretched to fill the 560x350 region (bad aspect ratio). This made setting my UI difficult and everything looked like poop.

Now I have the 2nd box set to 1680x1050 for all four clients, keyclone resizes them as I desire, and the UI is rock solid and everything looks normal on all screens even if they are small or made big.
