Default How to manage macros / UI ?

    Hi,

I tried to search but did not find any guide about how to handle macros. I am planning to dual box hunter / priest combo, I have both on level 70 on separate accounts (of course). The thing is that I want to use them for solo play aswell, and UI/keybindings/macros would be different. Is there any guide on this ?

I havent used it but i think you can keymap the different bindings as far as casting goes you can make macros like
    Code:
/target [target="main char", nodead, help, exists]
    /cast [target=targettarget, harm] [] Chain Lightning
it will target the main character if they are there and cast on their target else it will just cast on your target.
"Come back with your shield. Or on it"
    The Fallen Angels

This is a good question, because alot of us have solved it but it's not really written up anywhere.

There are lots of ways to solve this, and they will vary depening on what sort of targeting system you use in your multibox teams, but the absolute simplest would be to have a separate copy of WoW for your solo play.

That will work until at least WotLK when they introduce some form of server-side macro storage

Is it viable to use Piros rough sketched targeting but to substitute in the party1 nomenclature from Vyndree's assist by party assignment? For 5 man/PvE stuff that should be sufficient and flexible enough wouldn't it?

I have 4 L3 shammies I just started, I realized last night as I leveled the 4th one to 3 to join the other 3 that having all my assist and follow macros with an imbedded name isn't optimal.

If party1 is viable, I can run the 4 shammies, or swap in any of my higher levels from my main account (70 feral, 64 mage, 60 pally) and all of the assist stuff should work fine so long as they are the party leader.

For BGs and such I'd have to adapt since no guarantee of the same party, but should this work? Hell if my main dies I can have a macro on a non-broadcasting bar that changes lead and then just re-assist I think.

    edit:
Though I do now have 7 separate folders that are all cloned, I dread trying to update any addons, that's part of later learning. 1 copy for my main when solo, 3 copies on one hard drive, 3 copies on another, giving me the ability to tinker which hard drive the 3rd instance runs on.

I've been using the party1 method for awhile now, but as you have noted, it breaks down in BGs and such. Unfortunately, Clonedkey (on the Mac) does not provide the same kind of key substitution that CloneKey (on the PC) has so the "Targetless, Focusless, Leaderless" method is not nearly as easy.

However, if I was running on a PC instead then that is the way I would go. Then I would use TinityBars, Super Duper Macros or just a simple /click ActionButton__ to target things.

If you do choose to go that route then know there is a bug currently in the WoW client that causes an error message in TrinityBars macros and SDM macros the first (and only first) time it tries to /click something. You will need to switch to each client and click the 'ignore' button before things will start working correctly. This needs to be repeated each time you start up.

I like the old KISS rule, so I think I'll take this approach first.

If hard drive space is limited, consider using symbolic links/junction points for your Data folder
