Default Does turning off player/npc names help performance?

I haven't tried this myself and I'm at work right now, but I have tweaked the performance of my 5 wows a lot and altogether it has helped a ton. I still have quite a bit of lag in shatt (org is fine now mostly), and I was wondering what more ways would be to decrease it. Then I remembered that in WoW interface options you can turn off player, pet, npc names, etc. Wondering if turning this off on all 4 of my clones, but leaving it on on my main would help at all. Seems like it would be less loading/rendering on the clones which would help overall performance.

Has anyone tried this and does it work at all?

I turned off guild names and titles..but I haven't noticed any improvement other than my view isn't blocked by 4 slave guild names. :P
I don't turn mob names off, because I like to see if they are green, yellow or red.

Well I would leave everything (including guild names) on on my main, and turn ALL names off on my alts - the only time I use my alts directly is when I have to switch to one in PvP which at that point I already know which target I'm aiming for. Just curious if turning off all names x 4 would help.

A friend of mine installed WoW originally and a dialog was presented to him by the installer, I'm paraphrasing but it read something like...

"Seriously you cheap fuck, go buy a real computer, but if you are going to insist, I can install WoW on this piece of crap...." [Insist][I'll be back with new hardware]

Thanks to his antique I can tell you that without a doubt turning names off does help.
Turning sound off helps a LOT.
Keeping the clip plane as close as you can tolerate is huge as well. Personally I LOVE being able to see the horizon, but to 5 box I have to set it at about 3/4ths or closer to survive in shattrah.

hmmm..I forgot about turning sound off. I'm going to do that on my slave PC tonight because I got a slightly different message during install of:

    "LOL, go play solitare!"

It needs all the help it can get. :P

I do have sound off on all 4 of my clones, but still on on my main (necessity as far as I'm concerned). I have environment distance set to near on all 4 clones and about halfway on my main, and object distance set to max on all 5 - i might try lowering object distance to nearest on my clones as that will help a lot in shatt I think. The biggest issue is I'm worried about being in an instance or somewhere and having my main see a mob to target but none of my clones can see him at that distance/yet so they don't start firing. Not sure if that will happen with object distance set to minimum or not.

Will try the names thing tonight and fly to shatt and then report back tomorrow

The option that gave me the biggest increase in preformance is putting
maxfpsbk at 10 for my followers (no sound, all vid tabs at lowest).

Right now I have my main set to maxfps 30 and maxfpsbk 15, then on all my clones i have maxfps 20 and maxfpsbk 15 - someone once told me that going below 15 can cause your alts to lose follow, but if 10 actually helps a lot then maybe ill try that setting as well - all in all I think I have a few options I can still tweak to make my shatt performance acceptable. All I know is doing 5x city of light at the same time (where you follow the summoned elemental around the city) was downright brutal, but also hilarious to watch as it spawns 5 separate elementals. I had giant groups of people following me to see what was happening lol which only made the lag worse.
