Thread: XP or Vista

    Default XP or Vista

I am currently using XP with..

    AMD 2.6 Dual Core
    GeForce 9600GT
    4 Gigs of RAM

I don't have to much lag issues currently running 4 WoW clients on one machine. My problem is that XP can only ever use 3.4 gigs of the 4. IS it worth me switching to Vista to use the full 4 or will Vista eat up so much more resources id actually be losing?

I think you're running off half-cocked (ooerr) here.

Vista and XP can both address the full 4GB of RAM. You just need to be running the 64 bit version of either.

If you don't have any problems (and it doesn't sound like you do) then I'd stick with what you have.

Since you shouldn't be using over 3gb of ram to run 5 copies of WoW you wouldn't see any benefit from switching to a 64 bit OS.

Default Vista is a FPS killa' :)

Vista does eat GFX/Memory performance, i had a Core 2 Duo, geforce 7950gx2 and 2gb in xp 32bit - that kicked ass in wow 80-130 fps. (one client) running 2 or 3 i was at a minimum of 55 fps. then switching to vista first 32 then 64 bit killed that computer setup. So now im running a Q6600 G0 ~3GHz and 4gb ddr3 ram. and the geforce 280 (something). I'm running 4 of the clints on one core each and the last cleint of wow on no pre-chosen core and i'm running min. 65 fps (also running dual screens, wich also takes up performance)... The 5th client is lagging due to the prosessor - (anyone know a tweak for that). Bottomline if its running well for you atm, don't switch to vista. - btw vista with 5 wow clients running ~ 2,5GB ram used (at least for me) - and 4 cores at 100%
