Default How to Turn your followers?

So after numerous battlegrounds and a few arena games i've determined that I need more help turning my followers to zap someone. I'm looking for suggestions on how everyone else does it. What keys do you have mapped for it. Is there a mouse solution?

So far i have the arrow keys mapped, but its slow moving my hand all the way over to turn while trying to fire off a volley of lightning bolts. I also seem to remember there was some software (multiboxer?) based off of synergy that allowed mouse broadcasting so i could use mouse look to turn everyone. Any details you can give on your keyboard/mouse layouts that help with the turning of followers would be awsome.

Edit: After changing my searches around I found one suggestion of using zxc on the keyboard for turning. Look forward to seeing a bunch of different ideas.

I use CTRL+Q and CTRL+E for the clones, and the mouse for the main.. That's about it I guess.. 0o

When i started boxing i simply macroed WASD on my clones, but then came to the same point as u did, but at earlier level's, probably cause im one a pvp server. For some time i used the arrows but my ultimate choice, and its what i use currently is: A and D to turn, and S to go back, the original keys. I use W as the follow key for my clones.

It can get messy at the beggining, but im used to it, and works well. Fast rotation, can go back. I also have auto run mapped to one of my mouse side keys, wich is good to cruise around..i just tap W once and hit the mouse key and im rolling...

dunno for the rest of the ppl, this works well for me.

Me I use a Nostromo N52 as my main interface for controlling my guys along with a keyboard. The directional pad on the nostromo turns only my main via F11 and F12 keys, However the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard turn everybody. Effectively this lets me choose whether to turn my main without breaking follow most of the time, but deliberately turn everyone when I need to in arenas, BGs and whatnot...

You know you've been playing to much WoW when your Girlfriend's pants are a rare drop.

Personally, I took the time to learn how to move my char without using the infamous "wasd" or "esdf" for anyone who knows how to use a keyboard properly
( Anyone that could explain how "wasd" ever became a standard in gaming? I need to remap my keys in every game I play )

Anyway, I now only use only the mouse to move my character (using a MX Revoultion). Scroll sideways is strafing, thumb buttons is autorun and move backwards. I allways use mouseturn for my main.
As for the follower turning, I find it great to use the MX's thumb scroll to turn them.

The nostromo N52 or simular products has interested me. Whats the learning curve on something like that from somone used to use mouselook/keybindings as the main source of movement and execution.

Do a lot of BG's for a week, and you'll be fine

    I couldn't agree more.

    I can try.

In the beginning, there was Doom (the FPS game), which was the genesis of the mouse+keyboard First/Third PS genre, as I'm sure you know. As you might also know, in Doom there was no way to auto-run, so if you wanted to run (and every remotely serious player ALWAYS wanted to run), you had to hold down the shift key. This left us all constrained to using Z,X,C for some combination of "back", "strafe left", "strafe right".

Fast forward to Quake, and now you can just always run (don't need to hold shift anymore). You also have completely arbitrary key binds, and some of us figured out that it was faster to switch weapons (which was very important in that game, to play competitively) if they were bound to keys around the movement keys, rather than the number keys.

At this point, I immediately recognized that if I moved my hand up to home row, I could have more keybinds surrounding my fingers within easy reach. A lot of other people realized that a move "up" was better than still just using SHIFT, Z, X, C, but they failed to recognize that a shift one key to the right a) gives you access to 4 more keys in very close range, and b) is more natural for us because it puts our left hand where we are used to it for typing anyway.

So, a few early games adopted "wasd"; it, unfortunately, took hold, and here we are.

I understand why it happened, what I don't understand is why more people don't switch. Seriously, it's only win any way you look at it and takes like maybe 1-2 weeks to be comfortable with. /shrug
No matter where you go, there you are.

Can you help me understand this in depth? I use the same mouse and I'm thinking about switching my movement methods. Partly to free up keys, and partly to go to the Focusless, targetlesss, leaderless - setup, so i'd like to make the main and alts the same if at all possible.

    Main

    Forward: ?
    Backward: Thumb button
Turn Left: Mouselook, Thumb Scroll up(?)
Turn Right: Mouselook, Thumb Scroll down(?)
    Strafe Left: push Scrollwheel Left
    Strafe Right: push Scrollwheel Right
    Autorun: Thumb button

    Alts

    Forward: ?
    Backward: Thumb button
    Turn Left: Thumb Scroll up
    Turn Right: Thumb Scroll down
    Strafe Left: push Scrollwheel Left
    Strafe Right: push Scrollwheel Right
    Autorun: Thumb button (?)

do you have the anything bound to the 3rd thumbscroll option, "Push Thumbscroll in" ?
