Thread: Pally / Druid

    Default Pally / Druid

    Hey all, how is everyone?

Been reading these forums (and a lot of documentation on how to multi box) for some time now and finally decided to register today.
Dual-boxing has been on my mind lately and with the addition of the new RAF system, it was just something I had to try.

Pally / Druid is probably not the 'best' combo ever, but chosen because I didn't know which one I wanted or preferred, so decided to do both!! :-)

The idea is to get the Pally to AoE Tank groups of mobs and the Druid to be the DPS (somewhat) and Healer where needed.
We've just gone and done Hogger, both toons are Level 10, and have downed him, so was quite pleased with how it went.

My main concern and I guess question, is how people here (with experience) sort out their action bars on both (or more) characters? I have tried grouping things together a bit, but I can imagine as the amount of spells I have grows, I will be a bit tight for space. Would it be wise to have my Paladin (main toon) have his action bar set from 1 to = and the Druid (alt toon) have his action bar set from CTRL+1 to CTRL+=? This would make things more independent and allow greater control of both toons actions I assume.

Overall really happy with how it's going so far, don't really want to get completely into leveling until I am happy with how my skills are controlling two characters instead of one... Leveling seems the easy bit, that's for sure!

Im also idling on IRC for anyone who wants a chat!!

    Cheers,
    Retarded Monkey

Stuff to know about prot pally AoE:
You want nice shield spike on your shield. (Thorium or Fel Steel)
A shield with damage reflect/on hit of some kind is nice ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25828 )
Try to get gear with block rating
    Redoubt
    Use Blessing of Sanctuary
    Holy Shield
    Retribution Aura
    ...
So, with this, thorns and a healer, you can practially pull all the melee mobs you like.
I'd spec the druid for Brambles (increased damage from thorns) and then rest in resto.
HoT the pala and cast hurricane, Rince and repeat.
Point with AoE'in with pala, PULL A LOT! not 5-6 or maybe 10, go for 20+. Just make sure Holy Shield is always active,
heal with the druid and maybe assist with Hurricane.
I just wrote this in another thread, maybe it can help you as well?
This is ofc aimed at 60+, but the only difference is the shield I guess. There's a couple of epic shields you could get at lower levels with dmg-reflect and/or selfheal etc.
Currently not boxing, info below is not really relevant.

    Default Pally / Druid combo

I am also running this class combo. They definitely don't synergize in terms of cooldowns if you are running prot/balance like I am. Early on I was using voice command to rejuvenate/heal/moonfire/wrath/starfire and then I got proficient at moving back and forth to hurricane (druid aoe), throw a couple heals, etc. It can get a little hectic but you adapt. AoE Prot pallies excel at holding aggro so I can blast away with the druid. You could tie moonfire together with judgement since Judgement is 10 sec untalented and moonfire takes 12 seconds to tick but I have never tried it. I think you are on the right track with having one bar dedicated to each toon.

Have you looked into seeing if druid feral synergizes at all with pally melee? I avoided all this when I started to dual box because of the advice I read getting the followers to melee.

Up to Level 20 now on both toons, at 12 hours played with a lot of messing around and getting it set right.

Have it set up so that the main action bar: 1 to 0 and - / = are used for the Druid's spells and that the BottomLeft action bar is setup for the Pallies spells. I've set them up so they are also CTRL 1 to 0 and CTRL + - / CTRL + =. Essentially this lets me have control of my characters spells with mainly just my left hand which is really quite good when I need to react quickly.

I have specced the Pally into Protection and the Druid into Restoration and provided I don't pull 'too' many adds, I can usually live through most, especially when I am the one initiating the group of mobs.

Can't wait to get a few more Pally abilities to better help the AoE tanking!!

Will update as I go on.

I started a Prot. Paladin / Resto Druid / Warlock combo! Going good, although macros and hotkeys are all messed up, I can't imagine how I will setup then with more levels. ;(

I found cast sequences help hugely here as ive used a paladin with my shamans to good advantage and had the whole thing mapped on about 7 keys.

here is roughly how i did it with my pala you could easily substute which ive show below

    keys layout
1 - PULL (Pala: None till later, Druid: Moonfire)
something you consider doing is mapping back up to your pala's avenging shield at
higher level to auto disengage follow on your druid when your pala pulls, this leave you
free to run round on your pala.

2 - TAUNT(Righteous Defence, Druid: None) - hear you could do tell your druid to use roots on a target with a bid of fiddling

    3 - MAIN ATTACK
pala cast sequence macro /castsequence reset=20/combat/target seal of righteousness, judgment, seal of righteousness, , ,
druid case squence mace /castsequence rest=20/combat/target , , moonfire, wrath, wrath, wrath
This is roughly done you many need to adjust the sequence slightly

4 - Concecration on PALADIN here i would possibly place monfire on my druid and take it out the cast sequence of my MAIN attack.

    f1 = (DRUID)
    /target <PALADIN>
    /castsequence reset=10/combat rejuvenation, regrowth

    f2 = (DRUID)
    /target <SELF>
    /castsequence reset=10/combat rejuvenation, regrowth

f3 = (DRUID) - this ones for healing others as its nice to be able to help others, gives us boxers a better name
    /assist <PALADIN>
    /castsequence reset=10/combat rejuvenation, regrowth

F4 = (DRUID) BUFF MY TARGET MACRO
    /assist <PALADIN>
/castsequence reset = 10/target thorns, mark of the wild

anyway that should get you started pretty easly.

    Hope that helps

a word of note once you get concecration it becomes daftly easy with this combo although maybe i would of gone with a warrior but i'm biased, reason i say a warrior is if you have a healer warriors really are non stop killing machines which never need to stop for a drink.

Thankyou for all your information, I love reading about how others have done something I am currently doing!!

I have JUST got Concecration on the Paladin, but haven't tried it yet, AoE tanking will probably be a lot better now, just need to get a decent shield :-)

One quick question off topic, how does your dual mage combo go?
I want to give dual-boxing a go with 2x DPS classes and I imagine that'd be the way I go!

My prot pally /balance druid just dinged 60, this is how I did it

    1
    pally - nothing
    druid - follow pally

2 (Used to pull and during fight)
    pally - judge macro
    druid - /castsequence Insect Swarm, Moonfire ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    3
    pally - nothing
    druid - Starfire
4 (zomg the mob is running!!!)
pally - stun hammer thing (can't remember name)
    druid - Moonfire
    5
    pally - nothing
    druid - wrath
    6
    pally - nothing
    druid - rejuv pally
    +alt - rejuv druid
    7
    pally - nothing
    druid - regrowth pally
    +alt - regrowth druid
    8
    pally - nothing
    druid - healing touch pally
    +alt - healing touch druid
    9
    eat
    0
    drink
    =
    mount

I click Con, holy shield, righteous defense, and all the other pally things that were not mentioned.

What I was doing from about 30+ was, while mounted, gather a bunch of mobs (pally being my 'main'), lay a con and hit holy shield. rejuv, regrowth, wait for second con / shield, then alt-tab to druid and hurricane. Oh, and don't forget ret aura and blessing of sanctity. A Mage being my raiding main, I love that fact that something hits me and kills its self.
