Default slowcom's Guide to a better FPS!

Ok, I know this isn't new information to most of you guys here but this is what I've discovered in my quest to DualBox.

This will vary greatly from computer to computer and this guide only apply to people who are doing more than one toon per computer.

I wanted to have 60+ FPS on my main account with all graphic settings maxed out. I know my machine could do it, I just had to find the right tweaks to make it work. When I first started I was only getting 30ish FPS and about the same on my alt.

    • Have two (or more) WoWs installed on your computer. Don't use the same WoW twice and, if you can, have them on different harddrives.
    • Set all settings on your alt to minimum. I know it sounds easy but some people really do forget to set that.
    • Run minimaladdons on your alt and be sure to choose memory friendly addons!! You don't need Auctioneer on your Alt! If you are not sure about what addon to use go check out the Macro and Addons forum.
    • Run your Alt's WoW in the smallest resoultion that you feel comfortable looking at. I run it in 800x600 but I have two monintors to look at. If you're using just one monintor you will have to tweak it to your liking.
    • /console maxfps 15 - The key to the whole opration. Copy and paste that command into your ALTS WoW chat box. You can change '15' to anything you like.

With just those basic tricks I doubbled my FPS on my main toon. I know that's pretty drastic but 1 FPS more is 1 FPS more.

If I left something out please let me know and I'll add it!

Now, go and enjoy the FPS you deserve.

Thanks very much for this, I am waiting for my new rig to arrive and I am expecting some FPS programs to start with as I've never been good at configuring things to work at peak performance...

Althought I have a question, I have a quad core system and will be running... (*shhh* vista) is there anyway I can allocate system reasoures to a specific WoW window?

I use keyclone. Its 20 bucks and the support is great. Keyclone has the option to set the fps per screen you can set a minimum and a max. When a screen is in focus it set to 45fps when its in the background its 14fps. You can also assigned cpu affinity which is very important for quad processors since WoW by default only uses the first 2 processors.

There are free ways of going about this as well but having never used them I could not comment.

I have got a quad core system with Vista and I have not had to allocate anything. I just let Vista do it's thing. You can assign each WoW it's own CPUs but I have not had to go to that extreme to get the game to perform the way I want it to.
