Default opinions needed on pc build

    Hi all

I've been looking at building a new PC to multibox on. Im currently using a bog standard prebuilt PC to 3 box on minimum settings but want to 4 or possibly 5 box on one machine. I have listed my wish list below and would appreciate your input and advice!

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB)

    Mobo: Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

    GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB GDDR5

RAM: OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2

    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache x2 in a Raid 0 setup

PSU: Corsair TX 750W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant PSU
    Case: Antec Nine Hundred

I will most probably be overclocking this system too. With this setup would I be able to 4-5 box without much trouble?

    Many thanks in advance

As i've posted in my OCZ Core SSD review, I'm going to start by saying that $550 videocard is gross overkill (you'll be running your LCD's refresh nearly 100% of the time, usually 60-72Hz = 60-72fps with that or a lesser card), and you're better off getting a $180 HD4850 and $199 OCZ Core 32GB SSD unless you're playing on a 30" 2560x1600 LCD. Also, there's no way I'd pick a dual-core over a quad-core with the same architecture for 5-boxing, even if I have to sacrifice a few MHz in core speed. Get a Q9450 (or Q6600) if you can.

Aside from that comment, the specs you listed will 5-box just fine.

Definitely going to 4-box Diablo 3 after testing the beta for how well this would work.

    I have a 32" HDTV so that could be a possibility :P

    how about Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB)?

Your 32" HDTV, if it is even 1080p, most likely has less pixels to render than a 24" Dell. (1920x1080 vs 1920x1200)
Most 32" HDTVs that aren't listed at 1080p are only 1366x768.
If you're using a 32" HDTV (also likely to run at 60Hz), most of the time you'll be getting the same performance out of an HD4870x2 as you would from a much less expensive HD4850/4870.. a steady 60fps.

Larger screens do not necessarily mean higher resolution. There's a reason large computer displays are so expensive compared to HDTVs of similar size.

    Edit:
The Q9550 is even better than the two I listed. The difference between the Q9450 and Q9550 isn't significant, since they are physically the exact same chip, just one has a slightly higher clock speed due to an increased multiplier. The Q6600 is a physically different, and older chip, but it can handle 5x WoW just fine as well.

I took your advice on the quadcore and went for this one https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...odid=CP-211-IN

Not bad for the price I think you'll agree!

After just putting my PC together I'd recommend a bigger case than the 900. It holds everything but it's really tight with the HD4870.
