Default [X-keys Pro ] Applications locked out [Found Problem!!!]

i just picked up a X-key Pro USB. I thought about getting the PS2 version but with PS2 eventually going the way of the do-do I thought the USB a better investment. I am not sure I made the right decision but I digress.....

After the install I have an odd bug that crops up from time to time. I am not sure what the triggering event is but basically when I log out of WoW every once in a while I am locked out of my desktop and start menu applications.

My mouse still works, I can move it around, i use multiplicity and can scroll over to a second computer and it works perfectly but on my main computer I am not able to right click on any icon, or start any applications for that matter that are on the desktop or in the start menu. My mouse cursor is there, I can highlight and select icons on the desktop I can scroll the start menu but when I click on the icons or links nothing happens. If I go to the run dialog box I can type in a command but when I hit enter nothing happens. Oddly enough though I can launch taskbar icons like my calendar and running task with no problem it is just the start menu, the quick launch and the desktop items that I am locked out of.

I am forced to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to shutdown and when it comes back everything is working fine. This all started when I installed MacroII for X-keys. I uninstalled the software and all is fine again. Has anyone else run into this?

I have seen similar behavior. What I'm about to suggest may not fix your problem, but it is worth a try. In my case it was related to one of the modifier keys: alt, ctl. Sometimes, Windows will think you have alt or ctl pressed after exiting or using a keyboard device. To fix this, press and release the alt or ctl key on the keyboard. You may have to press and release each alt or ctl key. In most cases it was the alt key that was causing my problems.

Thank you for the reply. I do infact have a problem with my G11 and the cntrl button being stuck. It does not happen often either and I usually detect it when I hit Esc while in the game and the screen minimizes. I hope it is something this simple, I did tap the cntrl key a few times thinking it was just stuck again but that did not do it.

I have macrokey off now but will turn it back on to troubleshoot.

    Thanks again

Well Crap'ola despite uninstalls and upgrading MacroII software I am still having this issue. I have not heard a peep from PI Engineering, they do not have a forum you can do research on which is just wrong in this day and age....

I am happy to report I found what was conflicting with my new X-keys Pro USB. I had first thought it was keyclones as it was doing it whenever I had keyclone running. It was NOT keyclone, it was multiplicity that was causing me issues. Multiplicity is a Synergy type product by Stardock. I have been using it for years and love it.

After talking with Brandon at PI Engineering tech support he sent me a link for their new beta software that allows you to program your USB key in boot mod similiar to how the PS/2 version works. This turns the device into a true HID like a keyboard and stores all the macro info on the board like the PS/2. You were able to do this before but it was not supported by Vista.

You can get this new software at http://www.piengineering.com/downloa...dware.mode.zip there is a help file with it. I just set my unit up for hardware mode there was a little bit a learning curve for sure but its working great now.

oh yay, if this works properly, it should resolve the 500 ms delay at times I experience with this device :cursing: .. thx.

It does work I am running Hardware mode on my X-keys USB. I did not use the software they suggested though it was just too dang inefficient. The way you keymap with SplatIOC is painful at best. MWIIConvert was handy for forcing the board into hardware or software mode. This is all beta and I had more than a few crashes.

When faced with having to input each keymap back in I found a better solution. I downloaded mwii.beta.05.08.07 directly from the site not from the link I gave earlier that was for another software.

the beta version of Macroii looks just like the old one. While my board was still in hardware mod I turned on the programming button, started mwiibeta which switched the board back to software mode. I loaded the keymap I created when i first got the board and under the File menu option under Advanced I selected Write. This writes the layout directly to the board and sets it back in hardware mode. I crashed several times doing this and am glad i backed up my old keymap config. During one of the crashes my orginal keymap got corrupted. So please keep in mind that this is all beta and buggy but once I got mine working its been smooth sailing.

Now for programming the real macro's
The switch on the side of the x keys doesnt works anymore, is that normal?
Do I have to program all my macro's now in C# SPLATIO?

    Allready thanks

If you set your X-keys to hardware mode the programming switch will no longer work. The switch is for software mode programming only. I had issues with the MacroII software so I was forced to go hardware mode. I would not have done so otherwise.

If you need to program your keys and want to go back to hardware mode I would switch back to software mode program the keys that I want than write it to the X-keys and return it to hardware.

Yeah think I'm gonna do that, its gonna be hard work to put all the macro's in when its on Hardware mode.
Then go back to hardware mode to play.

    Thx
