First time post, but I troll the forums here looking for boosting ideas occasionally, so this seemed like something you guys might be concerned with.
We ran into a bit of a problem with our refer a friend boosting setup today, namely that one of our 4 lowbies was not getting the triple xp bonus.
Our setup is as follows:
VeteranB referred RecruitA-1
VeteranA referred RecruitB-1, who referred RecruitA-2
In simple terms, I have 3 accounts, he has 2. The plan is to have a 70 from my main account (VeteranA), run lowbies on the 3 recruited accounts, as well as one from my friend's veteran account (VeteranB).
All worked fine last night, when my girlfriend (separate, non-linked account) was running us to make things a bit easier. Today, we noticed that the lowbie on RecruitB-1 was falling behind on levels...2 levels so far behind RecruitA-2, which was started at the same time.
As near as I can tell, the problem lies with this fact (from the Blizzard FAQ): "if a monster or quest is trivial to either player, no experience boost is given."
Basically, RecruitA-2 is fine, because the mobs are not trivial to either himself, or RecruitB-1. RecruitB-1 is not fine, however. Even though he's also linked with RecruitA-2, the mobs are trivial to VeteranA, causing him to lose the bonus.
The simple fix is to keep VeteranA out of the instance, but this means my loving girlfriend is stuck doing the runs. We're also hoping that if I need to run myself, I'll be able to gift levels from RecruitA-2 to RecruitB-1 in order to keep him caught up with the rest of them. It remains to be seen whether giving RecruitB-1 levels will affect his ability to give my main account (VetB) levels. I'm hoping not, but its entirely possible that gifted levels aren't considered "earned", and thus he won't be able to give a full 30 levels at 60.
Long story short: If you're going to be doing run-throughs, make sure the 70 is out of the link equation completely.
