Default FPS issues I'm having... I'm at my witts end trying to figure it out.

Hi guys, thanks for all of the great info that the forum has on it. Most people would be totally lost with out this place...

Now onto my issue. I like to think I have a half way descent computer (system specs below). I'm only DBing two accounts so I only need to have two WoWs open at a time. I am using two different WoWs (I'm not opening the same one twice), my slave is running MINIMAL graphic settings with almost zero addons. I run my main toon with my normal addons, which normally gets 60 FPS in Shat (when NOT DBing), only gets 20-30 FPS when I'm DBing. I've messed with all of the settings and nothing seems to work that well. But this is where it gets weird. If I leave my slave in windowed mode, then put my main into full screen mode, BOOM 60 FPS all the time on my main toon. Only problem with that is I can't switch between my main/slave toon because the main is in "full screen mode".

So am I missing totally obvious? Or my sistem can't handel as much as I thought it could?

    System Specs:
    Intel Core2 Quade CPU - Q6700 @ 2.66 GHz
    4 GB of ram
    Vista 32 Bit
    GeForce 8600 GT
    Dual Mointors
Using Ocopus 1.3.1 for my DBing needs.

Thanks for any help guys!

I had similair fps issues with vista x64. The way I fixed it is disabling the "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager". It is the part of vista that does the "cool" 3d window tabbing thing and the preview windows on the start bar when you highlight running apps.

So for every open wow you have it renders it at least one extra time. I was 5 boxing and my fps was abysmal until I turned it off.

If you don't want to disable it permanently you can just stop the service when you play wow and restart it after.

    Hope that helps.

Have you set your WoW's for processor affinity? You would want WoW1 on Cores 0 & 3 and WoW2 on cores 1 & 4. (This is due to how Intel does their quad cores).

If you haven't specified this, you are likely running both copies on half your CPU.

Get keyclone, do what Zanthor said and set the CPU affinity so that each wow is on a separate core.
and THEN, use maximiser for your slave, set the maxfps while not in focus to 15.

Not sure if octopus has the maxfps option.

window mode will always eat more processing power than full screen. (Gotta love windows programming). Keyclone should help normalize the FPS issues. Yet another reason it is worth the money. As a test, load up your 30 fps scenario and look at your memory usage or processes under the task bar. Should help you debug the situation.

What's wrong with 30 FPS? I have them all set to run at 30 max (/console maxfps=30) There's minimal lag between the followers because of this, too.

Nothing is wrong with it... but if you can get better why not? ?(

I'm going to try a few things tonight and post up my findings.

EDIT: I have just a few minutes before I have to go back to work so I decided to log on and mess with a few things...

Not changing any settings just moving both WoWs to my main monitor, one on top of the other, the FPS go from 25ish to 50ish... Why is this? ?( ?(
