    Default Keyclone problem, the ghost in the machine

    First I want to say that Keyclone has been a Godsend for me. I've registered two copies and don't know how I'd get by without it. Thanks to Solid Ice (Robert?) for developing it.

    But here lately I've found Keyclone running when I didn't expect it, and it's caused me some concerns. In one case I was loading a second wow account and the character in the first account was speaking my account name and password. That was a bit unsettling. I immediately changed my account password.

    It seems that on my machine when I minimize Keyclone it disappears from the desktop AND the taskbar. The only way I know it's running and the only way to close it is to go to Windows Task Manager and "End Process."

    My memory is not real clear on the earlier versions, but I'm sure I didn't have this problem at the beginning (I started with v1.2). For me at least Keyclone does behave this way on v1.7f and v1.7m.

    I'm fairly sure the designer set it up that way as an improvement to average usability. Be good to hear this confirmed, though.

    i changed the application to mirror the way many applications work today. when an application has a tool tray icon, and you minimize it, hiding the task bar entry is considered good style.

    as for your uname/pword... you should always, always enable override before entering either. otherwise it will pass to your clones.

    you could turn off auto-add and manually add the clone AFTER you have logged in. this would be the best habit to get into.

    btw, if you double-click the tray icon, keyclone will pop back up. right clicking the tray icon will also bring up a menu.. one option of which is exit. so, after you minimize, you have other options to close it besides just 'end process'

    Ah, well, I feel a bit foolish now. I didn't pickup on the change, but now I do see the icon in the notification tray. I didn't see it among the task bar buttons and assumed that it was not showing up when minimized. (It did minimize to a button at one time, didn't it?)

    After playing around with it a while I see that it is quite handy there as an icon in the tray. And now that I know where to look for it, I'm hopeful that I can avoid broadcasting my security particulars to all of Ironforge.

    Thanks.

    Default Keyclone

    I would just like to echo that Keyclone is a fantastic little program. I have written about it in my blog. It is the best $10 i have ever spent on software, especially in terms of the amount of use I get out of it.

    @Adronson
    yes, it use to have a task bar entry that would close completely when you 'X' out. (it still does that now...)

    and i'm sorry for the confusion. the way i look at it, for every person voicing an issue there are a couple staying quiet. answering your question will hopefully resolve theirs. it also helps me better hone the tool to give you what you need and what works best for you.

    @Saber
    what can i say... thanks for the blog entry. very cool. i appreciate it a lot

    i noticed your squadron diary entry... i've seen a couple of people detailing out the lives of their clones at various stages... i think that would be very interesting for people to read

    I personally use a whitelist for my boxing. On this whitelist you will NOT find the Enter key or the / key for opening chats... This does limit my ability to Borg-Style communicate, however it also stops me from spamming my U/P to the world which is something I nearly did when I first installed...
