Thread: Follow Lag

  1. #1

    Default Follow Lag

Here's my current setup... 3ghz core 2 duo, 2gb DDR2 RAM, 8800GTS video card. I run 2 copies of WoW on this computer. I don't use Maximizer, just basically keep one copy behind the other. One alt follows the other during kill quests, instance boosting, etc... The problem is that if I run for about a minute straight, the other alt will lag behind so far that it stops following. Is there something simple that I am missing here?

I usually get around 100ms ping. 45-60fps or so.

    Watch your hard disk light.

If you see a lot of activity, then it might be taking too long for WoW to load the information it needs, which pauses the running on that session (regardless of what you see on the other session), and those small pauses add up to being too far behind and then you lose follow.

I get that problem in towns. I can't run across a town at all.

First solution would be to throw an extra gig of ram in (XP can only see 3, not 4). This will hopefully cache more data.

Second is to run for 45 seconds, pause and wait until the second char is actually next to you and stopped.

100ms ping! I sit at 500ms normally. That's the stuff dreams are made of...

Check the affinity of both wow processes. By default, if you have multiple cores, WoW will run on two cores. If you only have two cores then both processes may be running on both cores, and the foreground one might be starving out the background. You will want to explicitly set the affinities to rule out this case. Search the forums for 'affinity' and you should find several posts that explain in more detail. If you launch wow through keyclone it supports setting the affinities.

Edit: Make sure your leader doesnt have any speed enchants/talents :-) I had to redo my paladin's talents because I took the one that makes her run faster.

I have this problem if I don't run in windowed mode. I make sure all my copies are running in windowed mode, then "maximized". It elminates lag from swapping between windows, and it also fixes follow lag.

make sure you DONT run in fullscreen mode, use windowed mode (under esc-options-videosettings in wow)
and DONT minimize a wow screen

when minimized or when fullscreen windows will only give 1%processor to it, cause it thinks if its minimized or in the background its idle

I fixed mine by setting the affinity and using the bkfps or whatever that sets the background clients max fps.
