Default A way of manipulating the arena system

Isn't it possible to cause a significant inflation in the arena system by consequently buying new teams and quickly driving them to ~1300 rating, over and over?
Let's say for example that you are willing the put 2000g into this.. that's 10 5v5 teams.. that's about 2000 rating distributed among the teams around 1500-1400. This introduced rating amount will propagate through the system and generally raise the rating of all teams in the 5v5 pool. This in turn will make it easier for you to gain rating.

I'm not going to try this, and I don't advice anyone to do so either.. since it's in a gray area of what's allowed in the game. However I find the concept a little interesting and amusing. It also highlights one of the biggest design flaws in the WoW arena system - your rating can be reset by creating a new team.

I'm entirely convinced that it works though... there aren't that many people out there playing 5v5, and even fewer are creating new teams.. so every added team to the pool will have a significant impact.

yes but consider your ranked about 3000ish on whirlwind if your at 1500 in 3s. if you feed points all the way down to 1300 all day long it would work to inflate but the problem is i think it would be only a drop in the bucket unless you did it on a really massive scale.

Well the reason it works is because you create a local inflation.. which means that in the following hours, the rating of all teams around that rating will be slightly higher. It also causes global inflation, but like you say... it might be a drop in the sea.

However thera aren't so many active 5v5 teams.. so I'm willing to bet that it does work on a global scale given enough persistence.

I would actually like to know if this is considered an exploitation. Is it an exploitation if you do it once? Or only if you do it repeatedly?

Edit: The reason I would want to do it is because I don't agree with Blizzard's arena system design, and this, if legal, would give me a way to make people happy by causing inflation in the 5v5 bracket, so that I and them could reach their personal ratings for the basic gear. Fool the system.

That would be a massive drain on gold as well, 200g a team. It would take an insane amount of effort.

    Example,
Making 500 teams and losing 200 points on each, gives 10,000 more arena rating into the system. Spread that across 5000 teams in 5v5 (avg per bg), you've inflated the #'s by 2 rating per team

Haha well, very few of those 5000 are active at any time, but yeah.

I actually realized that all the reformers who like to look at a 50-0 winning record.. are causing deflation in the system.

What happens is that they create a team at 1500.. win all the way to 1950, sucking rating from all the teams on their way.. have a big laugh, and eventually disband the team. At the moment they disband it, they have caused a major deflation in the system because the points that the average teams lost to this team, are destroyed and not returned to the system as a whole.

This happens naturally. Just wait to late in the season all the awful players finally get the points they need to get 4/5 S(x) and struggle long enough to get on a team that carries them 1900+. Therefore less skilled players at higher rating = easier wins.

You'll notice gear gaps jump early in seasons and a close late in seasons. Not saying that Gear = skill but skilled players that want gear get it.

Arena is a free market environment even if you could raise it 100 points it would only last 1 week then it would be back and maybe even -100 points the next week.

The easiest way to gain rating is to pay someone to get it for you.
The best way to gain rating is to learn from your mistakes, and develop skill needed to meet the challenge.
