    Default Macros really needed?

Hey everyone, I've been reading over the forums now for a few months, and just started dual boxing last weekend (2 mages). I've never actually made any macros, and was wondering if since I'm only boxing two toons if I really need to make any complicated macros. I've got an invite/accept macro and a follow/assist macro, do I really need more than that? The reason I ask is I REALLY suck at making macros any more complicated than single /follow type commands.

well you could get by with just using a follow macro and a targeting macro and then use conventional spells.. although it would be nigh impossible to do half the things we do if we were all to switch to just using that.

    #showtooltip
    /cast [target=focustarget] Spellname

    aint too much :P

I'm just saying since I just box 2 toons, I can see the need for advanced macros for 4 or more, and mixed classes.

Well, you will need to have your toon assist you in some way so how do you plan on telling it what to do? You need to tell it to attack a target, heal/eat/etc. So you just make macros for what you need it to do.

The simpiliest form would me to

    /follow maintoon

So, all you would have is a follower. If you want the toon to actually help you it will require macros. If I was just two boxing I would still have the same amount of macros I have now.

well arguably, seeing as ur boxing mages, and most of the spells don't require more then an enemy target or selftargeting, you can try just remember you'll have to keep pressing your assist macro every time you select a new target now whilst that doesn't sound too bad, once you get used to boxing you may find you want to change the macros you use

    go for it tho!

    Could i suggest the macros?

    For your main

    /target [target=Clone,help]
    /f
    /a

    for your Clone

    /target [target=Main,help]
    /f
    /a

Thanks for the help. I'm sure as I grow as a boxer, and continue reading these forums, I'll learn more about macros and how to set them up

Not really. Most of us add complex assist/target options directly into the macros so we don't have to press two keys for one action. It's really about efficiency, not basic functionality. If what you've got works for you and is fun, there's no need to needlessly complicate things.

While I may 5-box, i procrastinated for awhile and made macros as simple as possible in order to just get by. As i developed as a boxer, and continue to develop, I have slowly realized that procrastination in this form of things causes alot of frustration. If you can slowly begin to master your macro making skills at this point in the game, then by the time you hit 70 you will be much better off and more knowledgable.

For example, a simple problem i can foresee you running into later on is in instances, if you are assigned to sheep 2 targets, without macros this gonna be irritating having to switch back and forth between screens. Learning how to take advantage of focus targets early on will benefit you greatly in your multiboxing experience. And as much as spamming an assist button seems reasonable, as you grow in level(and abilities) you will have more buttons to be pushing in your cycle, especially if you plan on pvping.

Remember that once you get used to more difficult methods it will become difficult to modify your methods without accidently turning to those ways.

    Old habits die hard.

No. Follow and assist is literally all you need for multi-boxing DPSers. I've never bought into the whole "have a macro for every spell" rubbish, and get along just fine.

If you add healers to the mix then more complex macros for flexible healing can REALLY pay off, but for what you're doing follow and assist will do fine.

Have fun, and well done for keeping it simple rather than letting yourself be over-awed by the whole thing.
