Default 3-Boxing Class Suggestions for PVP? Mages do ok?

Hi guys I'm thinking of starting a 3-box team, I'm considering 3 mages but I just want some feedback on how good they are in BG and in 3v3 Arenas.
Does anyone else have a 3x mages combo that do arenas?

Or should I do 3x shamans instead?

I would go with 3 shaman if it were me, or warlocks or something.

Mages seem to be pretty reliant on mobility, mostly through blink, which is difficult to use as a multiboxer (unless you wanna blink them all at the same time). Then again, I haven't boxed mages, so I wouldn't know. All I know is shaman hit almost as hard, wear mail + shield, and being an offensive hybrid they have a myriad of abilities that work particularly well when stacked.

Multiple mages are pretty effing sweet as Pom/AP scorch impact spec. 44/17/0 down to molten armor.

Hm... I'm considering Shamans more now.., I know they are very popular in 5s but are they as good in 3s?

tbqh i'd say no. Not unless you were going resto.

I have 3 mages. They are nice when nobody attacks them. But like the guy said above. They rely on mobility. When you box them their mobility is out the window. They are very squishy too. You will be happier with 3 shaman. My advice is bite the bullet and go 5. I made the initial mistake of just doing 3.

Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

Aside from being instantly destroyed by fear bombs of any sort, multiple frost mages pull off ridiculous shatter comboes and keep a massive amount of people almost permanently frozen (3x water elementals, 3 frost novas, 3 frostbite procs, and cold snap to top it all off) and multiple fire mages have very high impact procs as well as a possible pom+pyro if you dump 40 into arcane, although they are far too squishy to be anything other than a gimmick bunch that have a large (but counterable) multiple PoM Pyro every 3 minutes.

Frost is the way to go, imo. All the freezing effects give you time to work out all the nitty gritty stuff like your toons facing the wrong way or getting pwnd by melee. I personally use all blinks at the same time but I have to hope that my attacker doesn't stun me with one facing a different direction from the other 2! Plus icy veins gets rid of the annoying hunter pet pushback BS.

To avoid fear. You can sheep whichever fear class is running toward you. You can frost nova (though I wouldn't rely on this cause if you misstime it you're dead). You can blink. Most importantly you can chain CS together for 9 seconds of silence. As for going frost I tried it out and while I don't personally like frost... the shatter combos are insane.

edit: I humbly disagree with the following statement: "although they are far too squishy to be anything other than a gimmick bunch that have a large (but counterable) multiple PoM Pyro every 3 minutes." :P

Due to hardware limitations, and not having the dough to shell out for a new tower, I'm 3 boxing shaman, and I'm havin a ball. For pvp, you'll lack the OMG 1 hit punch till you get good spelldamage. But still, with 3, if you let me get a cast off comfortably, you're toast. Throw in a shock and not much can survive, especially if there's a few crits in there. I imagine at 70 I'll have to mix in more healing talents and gear, since I'll be a little more on the defensive than a 5 boxer. (the loss of one making a much larger difference when you only have 3) I regret not having my own "anytime anywhere" instance crew, since finding groups is the crappiest part of wow.

I *often* play two frost mages on their own for low-profile BG fun and farming. They're GREAT fun, but lack the single target "boom" of PoM + Pyro.

I can blink them together with no problems - I just have to remember to hit the follow button again.

They're really fun in BG, and my farming team of choice, but I can't imagine them being very effective at all in Arenas, where using your pet's frost nova equivalent is about all that gives them a real edge (difficult due to the need to click on the screen). They're just too squishy.

Mages have a get-out-of-fear free card too, with their ice block. Not as effective as 3x tremor totems (assuming nobody's wanding them away of course), but better than nothing!
