I'm going to be trying WAR out but tbh after they gutted so much from the release, I'm not expecting much I doubt very much that WAR will be good enough to keep me away from WOW.

I am going to let all you try and and then come back to tell me indeed it was butt.

Cutting half your content to make a release date

    Bad Graphics at best

I think I will just go and play the Table Top version for free!

So what if they won't have as much "content" as WoW. Their aim is to have some real PvP. Realm vs Realm actually.

The PvP problems in WoW are endless and I'll welcome at least trying another game where RvR is the goal.

As for cutting cities. Oh no...Imagine WoW with only one city where you can use an Auction House.

Remember that when WoW was released they cut all their PvP/Honor plans. War is going the other way, committing to PvP/RvR and cutting content. Sure the majority of players like PvE but there is room for another game.

I'm hopeful for a game where the endgame isn't scripted but decided by real opponents. Even the battlegrounds and arenas are scripted in the sense that the team numbers are always equal and the battle always starts the same way. There is something exciting about cresting a hill into a fight and not knowing if you'll run into 5 or 50 enemy. Scouting, communication, logistics, leadership all had a much stronger place in DAoC than anything in WoW. I'm hopeful this can be replicated, and cutting 4 classes and 4 cities doesn't matter at all in this regard.

I've canceled my WoW sub (ends on the 30th) and will be playing WAR come the open beta.

In fact I'm moving over to WAR for the same reasons I've been lurking here for the past 3 months and considering dual-boxing WoW. WoW has just grown stale for me.

End game blows, it's a huge timesink, farming mats has become a second job for me and the only enjoyment I get out of it anymore is playing my 39 twinked healer Pehed. I love pvp, but at 70 pvp is a grind w/ a huge gear gap and w/ the impending expansion it all seems so pointless. And w/ the info I've read from the expansion, I'll have to reroll to regear my twink (no more plus healing gear, and have 571 base {most of any 39 twink} so there goes my fun). That last one is really what sealed the deal for me.

I'm not sure I'll be boxing WAR, gonna run up to 40 first to check it all out. Whether I'll stay or not depends on that experience. If not, I won't go back to WoW, I'll just stick to HL2 DM and CS S, maybe pick up TF2 or try out some other MMORPG's but nothing else has peaked my interest yet.

Personally everything I've read and seen of WAR has me really exited. I mean come on, they've made tanks actually usefull in pvp! Thinking of d'b'ing Chosen/Zealot or BlackOrk/Shaman.

Supposed to get my Open Beta codes in the emailz today ^__^

Well it would if one of the classes cut was one of the ones you wanted to play :P

I don't really understand complaining about things being scripted. There is always going to be a finite number of possible things that could happen, and a smaller list of likely things that you'll see a lot. Everything is scripted, technically. The important thing is to have a lot of possibilities within that script. WoW may not offer quite enough possible situations in some content, but there really are a lot of places you can turn to to remedy this. I mean, for example, I don't think there's a single person on this board who's completely figured out the perfect way to handle every boss or dungeon as a multi-box team. I don't think Aellie's shaman team has an exact plan for every single possible matchup he could face, even if he has a general strat worked out for most teams. He has to constantly learn and adapt on the fly to what's going on around him. The possible class/talent combinations are extremely huge.

I'm not saying this to defend WoW in particular, but as a general idea to keep in mind even moving on to something else. Just because WAR is new and exciting now doesn't mean it will continue to be that way as the years go by. 4 years from now, you may have the exact same complaints about WAR. Ask yourselves if you're really doing what you could to get enjoyment out of the game. Figure out what you were doing wrong and find ways to avoid that playstyle. Farming for mats and thinking of your play as a "grind" is the wrong mentality to take into a video game. Every game ever made could be looked at in this light if you wanted to. Pac Man is an endless grind of eating pac-dots. But that's not what people who enjoy Pac Man think about when they play it.

First, I don't think I complained that WoW is scripted. I said the end game is scripted. I prefer live opponents with relatively unknown objects.

Even the biggest common fight in WoW (AV at 40v40) is small in comparison to fights that went on *every* night in DAoC. There was an ebb and flow to the RvR and not just a reset. The two are different and both have their merits. Sometimes it would be nice to have an even numbers fight and not spend and hour working on something to get steamrolled by 10x my numbers.

The DAoC model RvR is far more elaborate though and opens up different avenues of gameplay. In particular reconnasance. Communication and leadership were valuable as well. Organization at the micro and macro level was huge.

Also, I should note that the Blizzard designers seem to be oblivous to what constitutes world pvp. Everywhere they've integrated it into a zone, they've provided perches for 70's to nuke the on-level people with impunity.

I'm also pretty excited that there will be no stealth classes. Stealthers cry loudly about it being "strategic" but in reality they take from the PvP but don't give back. If everyone played a stealther, there would be no targets and no PvP. Everyone engaging in PvP should have to provide themselves as prey as well as predator.

I most likely won't quit WoW, but I'm pre-ordering WAR this week to play with some long-time RL friends who got burnt out from WoW awhile ago. I hope WAR doesn't disappoint like AoC - I played that game for a solid 2-3 weeks to level 40 or so, and it just seemed flat and uninspiring. I love some FPS - I've played CS/CS:S since 2001 or so, and actually took a 3-month break from WoW 5-boxing earlier this year to play CoD4 in leagues. That's more my style of PvP, so I hope I'm not turned off by WAR's PvP. If it's anything like GuildWars, I may stick with it for awhile, but the PvE/crafting aspect of the game better be able to back it up, or 100% of my gaming time will go back to WoW (ok, and Rock Band!).
    Ex-WoW 5-boxer.
    Currently playing:
    Akama [Empire of Orlando]
    Zandantilus - 85 Shaman, Teebow - 85 Paladin, Kodex - 85 Rogue.

Definitely going to 4-box Diablo 3 after testing the beta for how well this would work.

Not a chance in heck that I'll even try Warhammer Online. I love the miniatures, and the universe/novels (well, 40k more than medieval). But even WoW's PvP makes me want to drive nails into the devs skulls. I can't even imagine what an even more hardcore PvP game would be like. I'd become a frothing maniac.

Hteam, I don't necessarily disagree with all of your PVP complaints, I'm just saying that there's always a high level of predictability within a game. Everyone is playing by the rules that were programmed in. Saying something is scripted is just a cop-out to avoid talking about what's really bugging you. You've now done a great job explaining what you were trying to say, so that's fine.

I was also replying to the other guy on the thread, so don't take this all personally.

I think it's perfectly okay and cool to try out a new game and my reason for not switching is that I do still enjoy WoW, and I just set up my multiboxers.

The comment about stealth is interesting. I think it's abusable in some ways, definitely. I'm not sure that it's something which has upset the balance of the game in practice, though...
