    Default group composition advice

I keep seeing that a Prot Pally and 4x shamans is able to do all the heroics, I'm wondering if a Prot Pally(my main 70 already), Priest, and 3x shamans would be just as effective? or would there be any major down side?

    Thanks

You should do just fine, just won't have quite as much DPS as the 4 or 5x sham teams; but you have a solid healer/tank/3dps group with nice tools for lots of different scenarios.

edit: when i sub in guildies / friends i do just fine with 3sham + pal + [insert random guildmate] and if they are a tanky type that knows how to rolll without CC i just run my sham and drop the paladin.

I think it is a great idea. I mean yeah your going to lose some DPS but I think the priest is the best damn healing class in the game. Plus priest give you nice Fort Buff
