Thread: O'mrogg

    Default O'mrogg

    Hi,

I'm running a pala + 3 ele + 1 heal shami team, and got owned pretty hard by omrogg (2nd boss in sh). Basically he would switch heads and go to insta fragg one shaman after the other.
Does anyone have some good tactics for this boss? Healing through the damage is pretty much impossible since the team is 68 mostly in cloth and has no shields (besides the pala of course).

    kind regards

you know shaman can wear mail, right? and can carry a shield? that will give you a lot of survivability right there.

    Of course I know that.
Its tough to get a good shield and good mail spelldmg (and healing) gear while leveling up though. Most of the good caster stuff is cloth...
    If I had a choice / dropluck etc I'd run 1h + shield + mail

So, I suppose no one knows any good strats besides simply tanking this boss with a shaman? Guess I'll have to level up / collect more gear then which is kind of sad because the rest of SH was rather easy

Have you considered picking up the PVP set from the various vendors? http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=746

not great, but still a fair set...

even without a proper aggro table, they can help u in that fight, giving u enough distance to nuke, and heal whenever they come to one of ur chars.
    i did it that way...

    Requires level 70 to equip

Tried that (4 earth eles) and to me it seemed that these where never really targeted by o'mrogg. They can't taunt and for whatever reason o'mrogg pretty much ignored them.

Aw, I beat him (and kargath(sp?) ) a few times at 68 now, here is what I did:

I went to rfc to max the defense skill on all toons. I've been in the low 200s with some of them. The difference is huge..
I also farmed cot1 for the caster dagger and slapped on a shield

For the boss itself, I changed my positioning. I'm now standing as far appart as possible. And most important (because thats where I always wiped), I do _not_ pick up my group after a fear via follow, but instead I simply turn every toon to face o'mrogg. This will help avoiding the blast wave.

Cost me a lot of gold in repairs but was quite happy when I first managed to clear it

The key for this fight is to understand that this boss has two threat lists - one for each head.
When the other head takes control and he announces that, act as if you just started the fight.
Give the tank - or entity that you want the boss on - a moment to get a lead in threat.

Tried that, and it did not really work for me. Pally tanked the boss, and my healer healed the pally. The eles where doing _nothing_. After the first head switch he went right to one of the elemental shamans and it was nearly impossible for the pala to get back aggro (the shamies still did nothing). Then, after he finally had aggro the boss switched heads again and went to obliterated another shaman. So, I somehow doubt the two aggro table theory

Aw, now that I've got a shield and skilled up defense on all toons I can more or less just zerg him down

It is not a theory! Whenever I have done SH and stopped the dps for the switch, there was no problem. Holding Avengers shield, JoR and whatnot ready for the switch helps as well of course.

    It's a theory though

Wowhead for instance has a different theory on his aggro mechanics:

He has an aggro mechanic that makes it appear as though he as two threat tables (i.e. two heads) when in fact he has a normal one, and a "distracted" temporary aggro table that is typically a random player. O'mrogg will emote (both in chat and in sound), and will "switch" aggro which, when it occurs for the first time, is an effective aggro wipe, except for one person (not the tank) who is assigned a small amount of threat
Actually this one would explain why a shaman that did nothing got eaten even after the pala picked up the boss after the first head switch.

Aw, I can now reliably kill this guy so I'm happy

    kind regards
