Default Yet another newb - Spec and Advice please!

Hello to all, and yes, this is another player lured into the dark, murkey (and probably soon to be expensive!) world of multiboxing!

Firstly, I still remember the first time I saw a multiboxer, it was a 5 shammy group either on Chromaggus or Ravencrest and I was awestruck! It looked too cool for words! At the time I was a poor student running a cheap and cheerful rig and knew that I did not stand a chance of being able to do it myself. Now that I am working and have some cash floating about, I need a new project and am totally bored of normal wow.

I have done a lot of reading on this forum and the brilliant Wiki and think I have a reasonable understanding of what it all entails and how I write my own macros etc. but what I cannot decide on myself, is if what I have at the moment is good enough to do what I want!

I just ordered a new shiny 24" screen (to compliment the 19" I am looking at now) and a G11 keyboard (my usual supplier only had the G15-Refresh and I wanted more buttons anyway...) and this is the spec of my computer at the moment:

    Dual Core E6750 (2.66ghz)
    3.25GB RAM (stupid 32bit XP...)
    ATI 3870 (512MB DDR4)

So, what is the verdict, is there any way I could run 4/5 instances of wow? I would sacrifice all UI/rez/detial etc. but the x3 xp and challenge is too tempting!

Regardless of the above and whether I can actually do what I want, I have looked at a lot of the different makeups used for both PVE and PVP but what I was thinking of doing was a 5 Druid team so that I can stealth through instances and just pick off bosses, I know there is a cap to the no. instances per hour, but if I hit that, I could just grind or whatever. I guess it would be 1 bear, 1 tree and 3 bird things. If needed they all put some points into feral for the improved stealth, could that work? If not, maybe I will carry on with a pally tank and shammy nukes

Either way, thanks for having a look at this and any advice would be great!

your pc should run 5 with all the settings low, i'de stay away from major cities though, you will lag alot, WoW is more ram dependant than anything i find, and i dunno too much about anything but Nvidia cards, but the rest looks good enough to sneak by with a 5 box team, but you are pushing the envelope :P

easiest way to know for sure what your pc will handle is make 5 trial accounts and set it up and run around and see what it can handle.

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

OK, I have been doing some more thinking about how I am going to set this up. I am working on the assumption that I can get all 5 working on my current kit.

I have 1 account currently so that will be Old1 then I will buy New 1,2,3 and 4.

My plan is to have Old 1 invite New 1 and New 2 and have New 1 invite New 3 and New 4. That way, I can boost all 4 new accounts with my mage on Old 1 and then pool all of the levels and make a 5th toon up to the same level as the others on Old 1 and another potential lvl 60 on New 1.

My multi 5 man group will probably be 4 druids (+ a "free one" on Old 1) so that I can have an uber stealth group or so that I can fill any role in a raid/group.

My new screen and keyboard arrive tomorrow, so I will get the trial accounts over the weekend and start playing! I am pretty sure that I can just buy the game straight from the Blizzard site when I want to upgrade the trial accounts. Is there any advantage in buying CDs over getting the expansions from Blizz?

What do you pros think? Would that work as a setup?

For the record, as a little challenge, my mage (who is 66/67 at the moment) was levelled purely by AoE grinding from lvl 22 when I got Blizzard and 3 points in imp bliz. So barring ranged mobs, I am sure that I can mop up I have about 20TB of raw FRAPS footage I am too lazy to condense.... maybe when I am done multiboxing!

The only problem with buying online from the Blizzard site is if it doesn't work! The EU one has been down for a while now, with no indication as to when it'll come back:

We're sorry but there has been an error with your request.

If you are attempting to purchase World or Warcraft online, please be advised that the online upgrade feature is unavailable while some improvements are being made to the system. However, accounts can still easily be upgraded to retail accounts by purchasing a boxed copy of World of Warcraft- available at retailers everywhere.

Well, maybe that is for the best... I will start with Old 1, New 1 and New 2 and I can get the setup all working and macros done for when I can start the 5 man job

I think this is the first time I have been excited about wow since they introduced battlegrounds! BC was a bit meh for me, I was 3/4 quit at the time
