    Default blergh disconnects on routers/modem

    Heyas,

I seem to get this constant issue with my link dropping out. it seems the modem itself is dropping out alot..only ever happens when I multibox. and it happened on my old isp with a different modem (I'm on dsl now, used to be on cable). cable was on a netgear router, now on dsl I'm on a open modem/router.

if it happened with 2 different modems/routers then you can count them out as the problem, i can't see it being bandwith related either with 2 different companies, only common thing that's prolly in the picture is your network card, which in my experience they just go out, they dont kinda work and then go out. but they are cheap these days, like 20 bucks at walmart. Other than that i dunno.

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

What Kedash said. That and also there's always that slim chance it's wiring, or are you using a switch perhaps? Something that also comes to mind to ask is, are you using wirless?

I can't really see how the network card is causing the router to disconnect the internet. I have recently tried upgrading the firmware, still no go.

I have setup a dmz for one of my comps (just for torrents can't be assed setting up the port forwarding)...which would be the only thing I can think of.

When I was on cable internet, it was a modem + a router, now I'm just a standard modem/router (dsl) and I also don't use wireless (don't have it at all on any of my hardware).

The reason why I say its not the nic is cause I definitely see the "dsl" link light stop and check it on the router itself by logging in and see a "discconect" status on it.

I might give the port forwarding a go....see how that fairs....

I personally had major issues when i started dualboxing and the heat went up because off the overheating so i bought a table fan and made it blow on my router and now it goes yellow when i dont use it for sometimes. I never dc when i use the fan but im betting that its just my router that is old and crap.

well I can confirm it wasn't the dmz cause that went n d/c me again >< (middle of vc ><

don't think it could be the router not able to cope with the keystrokes? would be pretty shit if it was. I'm using octopus + keyclone....

I sometimes do 3 box with my 70s for dailies. it never disconnects me then :/

if all your connections on all the computers drop at the same time, it's probably not the NIC. When it drops, can you ping your router? if so, then the router is still alive, and the modem is probably the culprit, but it could still be on the WAN side of your router. might open up a dos window with a continuous ping to your router.

use "ping -t 192.168.0.1" - or whatever your router address is - and let it run while you play. There shouldn't be ANY lost packets going to your router. when it drops check the pings and see if they die too. if so, then your router is suspect. If you have any lost packets pinging your router, then suspect wiring or the router itself.

Might also set up another ping window continuously going to www.yahoo.com or somesuch and see if you have any dropped packets. Shouldn't see many failures, but a couple per minute would fine.

On DSL, isn't there an "online" light? does it go out? How close are you to the node? your house could be on the borderline of being within distance of your local switching node. Possibly throttling from the phone company?

Is there a time correlation? certain times of the day are worse than others? could be the CO switch getting flakey but that's a long shot.

Thanks for your help guys, I just thought I should follow up on this for anyone else having dc problems similar to mine. It seems my connection degraded since I last posted and was constantly disconnecting. I contacted my telco and there was something wrong externally from my house. Its all fixed now
