Default How To Videos: Are they being made?

I can see, from the short time that I've been here that a lot of prospective multi-boxers seem to jump the gun, asking for help instead of browsing the forums, or looking at the wiki's. I myself had been there, although once you wrap your head about how it all works the macro's keybindings, all came easy for me.

I've seen in the forums a lot of people asking for how-to videos, as guides albeit helpful a visual aid that goes through the process and explains each step is invaluable amongst a starting guide.

I'm sure some people have already begun to tackle the task, but I can easily see how problems may arise. There is so much to cover that it would easily have to be segmented. How would it all be sorted? Also, there are SO many different methods or styles to approach multi-boxing that in the process of setting it all up it becomes very individualized. Sure, macros can be shared but the overall layout, the exact hardware is all different for every single person.

I was wondering, who, if anyone is tackling such a project? If so, are they organized? Perhaps if an official "team" diverted tasks, and set goals the whole project would come together. I'd be very inclined to help out in any way I can. Maybe each member can make a mini-guide on how they did it? A lot is possible, and I was wondering if anyone has been tackling the project already. Feel free to speak up if you need any help.. If not, would anyone be interested in starting?

I was actually talking to Suvega about this a couple days ago.

However, many of the questions that are being asked are about specific software products, but at least in the case of basic macros and such it's realistic that a guide could be made.

Hmm Well I could get started on basic setup and things like that.. Anyone have a good idea of recording software for something like this? Snag it? Hypercam? Any others that are good?

    obviously my fraps won't work

This is something I was planning on doing when I move. Figured, well if I have to do this yet again, I could post instructions on how to hook up all the wires. As for the movement day i wish I knew. Until then i'm stick playing in a living room

I've used Snag-it to make how to videos at work on my desktop, that should do the trick I think.

I would be happy to make a few video's, ranging from the initial software setup, to macro's, to eventually tips for playing through the game. IMO it wouldn't be that tough to get into a few video's, you would need to start with the initial points. As I use a software system, I wouldn't be able to assist in any form of hardware multiboxing, as I know nothing about things like Vetra's. The best bet would be to leave the act of choosing software / hardware, Number of PC's, number of monitors etc to the end user (If they can't get that far without a video multiboxing -is not- a hobby I see them sustaining) and start with setting up the software.

So in say, video one start with the most popular software available, Keyclone and Octopus and <insert your software here>. In order to keep video's brief, possibly a seperate video for starting with each software. Discuss how to setup multiple copies of WoW to start and run. This would be a pretty good starting point. I know a good explanation of Octopus would take up a decent video itself.

Another video could then begin to discuss 'the start' of macro's. I think it would do best to begin with a targeting system. As there are multiple ways to do this, you would want to discuss a Focus based system, as well as an assist based system, discuss advantages and disadvantages of each system, as well as using /target PlayerName over /target Party# and it's advantages and disadvantages. Depending on length of video, might merge with following.

A video discussing keybindings, and movement. A lot of what we do depends on clever keybinding and macro's, so in order to even begin playing you'll need to develop a good number of them. Start with brainstorming, what does each character need to do, and when? Obviously each character has their own best DPS cycle, so we would need to figure that cycle out, and then put it into a macro, have a demonstration of this. We would want to place this form of macro under the same hotkey. Also think of issues you might run into with Cooldowns. We wouldn't want a /castsequence that had a long cooldown on a spell, as that would cause the character to stop acting if they ran back into it.. and I digress. So macro's and movement.

Another keypoint a lot of people ask about are formations, so a video, or talking points in a video, about formations would be helpful. I could see it being best done by showing the keybinding process inside say Keyclone or Octopus, then a demonstration video RL Video and In Game Video, as to how that keybinding then works.

Would be good on a lot of these to have people voice opinions (Especially on advantages / disadvantages of different methods) so the video's could try to encompass more then just one view. I know my way of doing things is much different then most peoples, and it's also amazingly software dependent (Software crash = guaranteed dead, kind of disadvantage).

Welcoming feedback on it. It's amazing I think I could keep a howto video brief. I can't even keep this post brief. I'd have to write a script.

I've always planned on doing a simple beginners guide to multiboxing. But never got around to it. Maybe someday when I'm really really bored. There's alot to cover so I'd imagine I'll wind up making alot of videos, and I hate the sound of my voice.

I have been working on one for a week or so now, but I barely get any time to do any editing, with work etc taking up so much time.

I've always been under the impression that if we could show ppl the very basics.. all up to the point were they log on and fire off their first targeted spell, then the rest would fall into place..

things it should include as a minimum (imo):

tell them this isn't going to be easy.
ask which method they wish to use (hardware or software)
make sure they understand the accounts all need to be in the same name (although this means Vyn won't get to post her policy stuff as much :S )
Assuming most of the ppl in need of this guide are likely to be software boxers (i imagine hardware the fewer hardware boxers wil generally have spent a lot more time researching), a brief introduction to Keyclone or any other viable software.

introduction into basic necessary macros.. so for instance if we are talking the assistfocus system, then an introduction to the follow macros and how to set up the attack macros for any generic spell.
recommended addons (questhelper - anything else that may help)

what to expect as reactions from singleboxers..

Basically a overview into boxing, and whilst despite this all being in the wiki, nothing can show an inexperienced player better then a video.

I've already sort of got the voiceover done, but I need to collect video footage of every setup step :P which is a pain :P especially because I want to make sure that nothing can be misinterpreted or them accidentally missing a step :S

anyways can anyone else think of something that has to go into a guide?
