Default Prevent accidental bans on your account

I thought it would be beneficial to share my experiences on how I've spoken to GM's about multiboxing and why I have not received a message from one for almost 2 years.

The main rule of thumb is to make sure all your account match your personal info so there is no discrepancies if any decide to thumb through your various accounts.
Second is at one point you'll most likely receive a message from a GM either inquiring or testing to see if you are a bot. Instead of worrying about being on the ball and not wanting to miss their tell on a secondary character, you can go the pre-emptive route which is sending a ticket in letting them know you Multibox, and placing a request so that they can leave a note on your account that you do.

With this note, GM's will easily be able to identify your playstyle and ensures they do not accidentally act on something that is within their ToS. As well you shouldn't receive any tells from GM's in the future regarding this issue.

Again this is how I've taken the approach, and I'm sure it will make many of you sleep easier knowing your in good hands.

    I second this.

I reported myself as soon as I created my first team, asked the GM if he was familiar with Multiboxing and then asked him to make a note on my accounts with regards to my Multiboxing.

I have never received a tell from a GM nor any other issues. I'm positive I've been banned as per the numberous opponents creating lvl 1 alts on my server to tell me off.

This sort of info should be stickied, I'm thinking, given all the recent "Will I get banned??" or "I got banned!" posts.

Has anybody done recently this on the European servers?

I remember about a year ago there was a flurry of posts about doing this, and as I recall one of the European boxers at the time was told that the EU GMs don't maintain any such list, and won't put any sort of comment on your account, so I've never bothered.

I've never had a problem either, but would be interested to know if that's still the case.

    Double take...

Did you mean to say "I'm positive I've been reported..."

Yeah I'm not sure how much validity there is to this, usually MMO customer service tools allow notes to be attached to petitions but not players - its too open to GM abuse if they start letting them attach random notes to players. Customer service turnover is always high in these type of industries. I suppose a GM could leave a petition open on your account with "this is a multiboxer", but again, wide open to abuse - botters would "report" themselves as MB'rs and then go ahead and bot away, assuming that GMs will just ignore bot reports.

Random GMs also don't follow up botting reports, they first run software checks to see if you have known bot software, if not only a handful of GMs follow up on bot reports (those who know how to spot them etc) and I'm sure all of them know about multiboxing. Its pretty obvious if a GM spawns invisibly by you that you are multiboxing and not botting if your 70 is pulling stuff and AOEing or if your main is quest killing while the others are on follow.

I've done this on a couple different servers, the GMs i've spoken with all seemed to think that it was a good idea and I've never once had a "check up/in" from them despite being reported numerous times... best one (which I believe i have a screenshot of) was some level 1 alt, opened a ticket after i ran into his team in the arena, and sat there for almost 2 hours pestering me while I was running heroics afterwards, at some point along the line I got a mis-tell that was obvoiusly to a GM - then the hate tells stopped, he apologized and asked how to get setup with multiple accounts

I don't believe that just because you SAY you're a multiboxer means you get a free ticket to not being investigated.

The investigation still takes place, but the GMs now have additional context. For example, if you hit a new GM (as you say, customer service turnover is high) who doesn't know the policy on multiboxing -- there will be a note on the account and he can ask his superiors for clarification before passing any action.

One of the first things I did when I started 'boxing was to report my own accounts. Multiboxing was less well known then, but it still helped relieve some anxiety to hear from the GM themselves that I shouldn't be worried about it.
